Stump Julie at UTC

I was wondering if anyone else at the UTC regional encountered the "Stump Julie" game. This girl was from team 237, and the challenge was to mix up a rubix cube so that she could not solve it in under two minutes. This girl was insane. Mix it up however u wanted, she'd put it back together. There were only two times over two minutes, and I was one of them I was amazed by this, was anyone else? It would take me two weeks to solve one of those confounded things, let alone two minutes.
You guys should do this at Nats, it would be fun, hope to see you there.

What did everyone else think of this?

Re: Stump Julie at UTC

There are a set of moves that will gaurentee that you solve it if you follow those moves. Some people like this Julie have memorized these moves so they can solve any rubik's cube quickly on the spot. There are a lot of patterns in it, so it isn't too hard to memorize, but you have to want to know and retain that knowledge to be able to do it all the time.

They also have rubik's cube competitions...where you see who can solve it the fastest by taking the average of several cubes. Those people are insane...routinely doing it in under 30 seconds.

Quote:
The lowest record time for a solving a single cube at in an official competition is 16.53 seconds, set by Jess Bonde
I took that from a non-official rubik's cube web site. It also says the fastest 5 cube average is 20 seconds flat.

There are also people who can study the cube for a while and then solve it blindfolded. It is really interesting to see this, cause it is so amazing.

Re: Stump Julie at UTC

ok the rules of the stump julie thing was this any challengers had 60 seconds to mess up a rubiks cube and then julie had 2:37 to finish it.

As of now this will be goin on during nationals too so come look for Team 237! stump Julie and win a prize and while your at it take some pix of our bot, talk to us, and have a good time, you can even hang out wit us

Re: Stump Julie at UTC

This lego robot solves the 3 by 3 rubik's cube, but it moves so slow that I doubt it could ever come close to beating Julie. Next year's game should involve the robot retrieving a rubik's cube from somewhere on the field for 20 points and solving it for 200 points. That would be a sight to see...

Oh man...I forgot about that robot. I've seen some videos of it solving the cube's. It is so amazing, sort of like the people doing them blindfolded. That would be a good match...blindfolded guy (he gets to look at and study the rubik's cube before being blindfolded to solve it) against LEGO robot!

There's another thread on here about that LEGO robot http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=24372

Sshhhh, don't say anything but Julie's really a robot too! You don't know how difficult it was to write that autonomous program!

Re: Stump Julie at UTC

There's this senior at our high school who came here a few years ago from Korea. He's pretty much one of those 'genius' people who don't plan on going to college because, as I quote him, "I don't need explanation." Most people recognize him by the Rubik's cube in his hand whereever he goes... He spends half his free time working out various algorithms for solving the cube. 2:37 is plenty of time for those obsessed geniuses who have nothing better to do

Re: Stump Julie at UTC

Last year at the NYC regional, there was someone who went tup on the field and was going to solve the cube in about a minute.

Problem was, that they started to solve it and was going so fast that they broke it right on camera. Oops....

edit: if anyone knows who that was in NYC exactly, and if they will be in Atlanta, maybe we can have them both go up on stage during lunch one day or something and compete. lol
