coolest robots

Which robots have stood out in your mind as the coolest so far? (try not to talk about your own team(s), that just sounds corny)

I've only been to NJ and UTC NE, so my experience is somewhat limited, but i guess i'll go first.

126 has one of the coolest combination bots of all time. they can suck balls, cap, and hang with amazing effectiveness. they put up one hell of a fight in the finals at UTC, truly an inspiring machine.

237 may only do one thing, but it is a beautiful thing to behold. the shimmy (as they call it) is truly innovative, and can strike fear into the hearts of their opposition.

though i'm probably a bit biased on this one, i will say that 716 is one of the most versatile hangers out there. they can get on the bar so fast (in fact, i've never seen another team pull up so fast) that they can spend the majority of the match doing what they please.

782's capping strategy was something i hadn't even considered until i saw it in action (they cap the goal from the back side just before hanging). paired with an excellent hanging device (and nifty onboard camera, i think), it is an impressive machine to behold.

there are tons of teams that are also very good that i have not mentioned, but my fingers can only go so fast, and i'm not going to just list team numbers because i might forget one (and make someone unhappy). i also have only seen so many robots in action.

and so i open the floor. please try to keep this thread goodhearted, it was intended to be so.

571 - Paragon's Ball Gathering And Capping Devices were amazing

[EDIT] I forgot to mention our ghetto bot , the "knightmare" of team 195. I think the pvc arms and orange safety gloves strike fear into the hearts of everyone [/EDIT]

Re: coolest robots

33 - That huge box of a ball bot has me. Will it be able to hang?
45 - The arm. But it'll end up being a ball bot/hanger by the end.
569 - Very fast hanger, it seems.
126 - It didn't click until I saw them hang. If only they didn't tip so easily
(571 - Ball pickup mechanism is very effective. If they are able to hang again, then they will be the best.)
60/254 - They should win Quality wherever they go. The machine is just well put together.

33 is still my favorite, and I haven't even seen them in action...

I really liked the power and ability of the team 47 robot. It impressed me right off the bat at the Detroit Regional.

[SHAMELESS PLUG]

I like 121's bot...

They can hit the 10 pt, herd, cap, and hang. They also have the quickest and coolest big ball manipulators I've seen. It's also the only bot I've seen that can manipulate two big balls independently (sp?). It tipped a bunch at BAE, but after the installation of a "Wheelie bar" (inspired by Homer Simpson), it has yet to tip. It was interesting how it was particularly targeted by opposing bots during the finals. No one messed with it's partner. They all went after 121...

Two pics:

126, you have an awesome bot! It's too bad we couldn't ally with you at UTC! Talk about match domination!

Re: coolest robots

Of the robots that I've seen so far...

- Team 33 is the best pure ball bot.

- Team 47 is the best all-around robot that I've seen. It can do every aspect of the game VERY WELL(except autonomous - so far). It herds balls well, caps well, and hangs amazingly well.

- By the end of the year, I think team 45 will wind up being one of the highest scoring single robots of the year (what I mean by this, is if they were the only robot on the field left to do whatever they wanted, they would score the most). They herd and cap with the best of them. To me, this is the ultimate high scoring machine - hold a large ball in your gripper while you heard 10 balls, then cap the whold thing at the end for 160 points. Great job, TechnoKats.

Re: coolest robots

BTW, I also really like 181's bot. The only problem I have with it is that it's center of gravity is waaaay off when it has a big ball. (And it can't hang) But I like it.

Re: coolest robots

From what I have seen 303 is one of the best. They can herd like mad and cap both, or all three if in qualifiers. They play the game till the end because they don't need to hang. Plus they are great alliance partners. Chesapeake, w00t w00t.

Re: coolest robots

hey dude.. dont forget 195.. we scored 115 by ourselves when 236 tipped (argh)

[EDIT]There are no hard feelings towards 236, it just played out that way[/EDIT]
[EDITx2]That had to be one of the best matches.. Techno Ticks and Cyber Knights Vs. Killawatts and BOP (4 highest ranked teams at the time, i think) And oh yeah, 236 did help corral alot of balls, they just tipped when they went to hang.[/EDITx2]

I love one on two matches. We won one I think against 1048 and 16 when 1111 died in our last qualifier (it kept us undefeated). It was a fun one.

BTW this thread is going to fly, so many posts, so quickly. Good ob Solace, nice topic.

Also 16 has a nice bot. Most powerful suction capper I have seen yet. They heard with a roller, and hang with swiss cheesed cams. Plus they are fast enough to our three speed on the fly a run for its money.

I was also inpressed with the Chief's bot this year, its well rounded.

Even thought they did not do well at Great Lakes I liked the Team 470's Drive alot, it looked wickid awsome.

Team 469 was also really nice.
