Re: coolest robots

808 was the most impressive hanger I saw at Pittsburg - all they need to do is make a captive hook so they cant get pushed up and off the bar (if they are going to another event Ill bet they are busy working on a captive hook design even as we speak)

they were the top seed.

Re: coolest robots

I can't believe 16's robot has only been mentioned once.. they pretty much won chesapeake as their partner would go straight to the bar. In auton they knocked the small ball off the tee, then herded about 8 balls back, capped their goal, and hung. It was incredible. Two regional championships so far, watch out for the bomb squad.

33 is still my favorite, and I haven't even seen them in action...
As far as I've heard, Team 33 can hang, but is going to be over weight with the hook, or something. So far as I've heard is that they are going to try to figure out a way to get it on their robot.

Re: coolest robots

watching at VCU, i would have to say I was most impressed by:

33-it was awesome seeing all those balls just moving around in your bot. Good luck on making it hang!

616- the robot had a really good strategy. they would drag the movable goal over, pick the 2x up, wait for their HP to shoot some balls in, then recap and go hang on the bar. it was overall very effective

435- they could herd balls fairly well and it was pretty cool that you could hang from the ground and go up really fast.

945-probly one of the most efficient robots that did what it was designed to do, at ucf; it capped and hanged flawlessly
1083-best ball herder at ucf along with an amazing human player

Re: coolest robots

From Pictures I would have to say 254/60 bot is prob. the best built bot I've seen in a while.
1369 had a sweet looking drive too.

But from real experience..

945: is just flat out one of the most effecient bots I've seen in along time.. I mean.. they can cap that goal and hang with some darned powerful robots playing defense in like 30 seconds. They are also quite good at herding those pesky balls... The simplicity of their bot combined with great driving makes them a great bot.

312.. darn cool looking robot.. and really fun to watch hang

1083.. best ball coraler/human player combo I've seen.

233.. most effecient hanger.. I think they can do the whole process ( onto the platform.. setting the arm to hang and pull themselves up ) in like 9 seconds? Thats like unheard of... That was with another bot on their playing a bit of defense

Re: coolest robots

though I hesitate to "toot my own horn" I must admit that 138's 4 wheel ackerman steering is something to behold through its ingenious simplicity. add the 4wl drive with unsurpassed torque and independently controlled wings that herd balls... not to mention the arm that can manipulate the 2x ball and deploy the hanger hook/winch...

I am very proud of Hummer mkII, and i believe it deserves at least a mention.. especially after placing 2nd at the BAE Granite State regional

but trust me, I by no means think our bot is the coolest. from what I hear, that belongs to 33!

Re: coolest robots

After attending regionals for the past three weeks, here are the robots which have most impressed me.

Team 48 -- The best robot that attended the Pittsburgh regional. They mounted the decks like they weren't even there. Their drive train was so powerful they pushed robots around with ease. Add an incredibly quick hanging arm, and you've got an amazing package. I can't wait to work with them again at the Canadian Regional.

Team 69 -- You know what they say about robots with big wheels, don't you?... Yeah, they get on the deck quickly.

Team 229 -- For a second here, lets ignore their strong and massive arm. Their drivetrain is simply awesome. It's powered by the CIM and has a two speed gearbox. They didn't really get to show off the power until the elimination rounds in Long Island, but man did they show it off. Every match they were in, we just sent them after on of our opponents. They would engage the opponent and lock them up for the entire match. It was a defensive masterpiece. Our alliance (311, 1114, 229) never lost a match that 229 played in. Just awesome.

Re: coolest robots

one team i know hasn't got mentioned yet but i think deserves to is team 25. I saw them at the New jersey regional. Their bot may not have performed exactly perfect. But their arm and arm control was INSANE also their SIMPLE transmissions with locking breaks were amazing. Wish they had better luck. I loved they bot though.

Peachtree Regional

494: Their robot was crazy. They'd score like 160 points by themselves almost.

34: I have to thank our partners in the finals for having a really strong robot that could hang well.

Re: coolest robots

Based on the Chesapeake Regional:

Oh, I definitely second 16. They were our alliance partners, and while both 1405 and our team had good 'bots, 16 was special. Their cap system was one of the best pieces of engineering I've seen on a FIRST robot, and while the cam system they used to climb the platform was a bit slow, it was amazingly cool to watch. We couldn't have won without them, and I'm sure they deserved the regional Chairman's too.

25's arm, and the way it auto-locked, was beautiful.

1083 built the drive train my team wanted to build. The difference is, they had the funding to buy the wheels and the actual machine skillz to build it properly. Their robot was so amazingly agile...

1403's robot was kind of ghetto-looking, lots of wood and styrofoam, but that disguised the fact that it was the most solid "shopping cart" robot at Annapolis. Their auton mode programming was amazing, especially for a rookie team that was run by its students & not its engineers...
