Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

For the past 2 national competitions i've seen some awesome dancers. But this weekend at UTC I was blown away. My friends and I from 236 were working the LEGO booth and we met up with 4 of the best dancers we've ever seen in our lives. They were Paul from 228, OJ from 228, Andre from 237 and Seth from 121. All I see are people running around and busting moves. I'm sure you've all seen our Tick Dance or we've made you do it. This makes me think, does Robotics automatically make a person a good dancer?

Re: Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

Not at all. But, you do tend to come up with new dances on the spot to out do your opponents dances.

As for those people you mentioned, I see you only mentioned 1 person from a team. Maybe that is the average, only one good dancer per team.

Re: Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

Rhode Warriors, You should ask Seth to dance for you. Maybe you guys could come up with a ruitine for nationals.

Has anyone had the pleasure of being asked to do the tick dance?

Lightbulb Re: Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

I'm a terrible dancer, but I guess being with other FIRST people who are just like me makes me care less about embarassment, so much that the guy in charge of video on my team included me making a fool of myself dancing in a recent promo video for the team. Ah! I can't help it. I'm reserved all other times...

Guess that answers why there are so many good dancers in FIRST. Some people end up being far less embarassed, therefore go nuts.

Re: Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

I'd have to agree.. it seems as though there are a lot of people who are quite gifted when it comes to dancing. I only wish that i could have seen OJ perform his split...

I should warn you though, at the UTC regional i went up to the MC with a few fellow ticks and paul from gus, to ask him if the mascots could come up and all do the tick dance during one of the dead times. He then told us that there is an acutal rule against dancing!

(Sounds a tinsy little bit like footloose...)

Re: Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

How sad! What would a robotics competition be like if there was no dancing?

I say we call a dance off at nationals! Who's in?

I'm gonna have to say ditto here... but I dance anyways, because I think dancing next to Sam offsets my bad-ness.

hmm, maybe not?

Aww, I see you mentioned Andrey, but not me. I guess he's just the better half. . Being pretty challenged in the coordination department kind of sucks- guess I should just stick with soliciting the Stump Julie (rubix cube) game, and cross my fingers that he doesn't plan on taking the robot to prom instead of me...
Did you see the little girl with the Afro from Gaelforce? She had plenty of guts. .
