Re: Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

I'd have to agree with Andre's dance, it's pretty awesome, but I have firsthand knowledge that robotics does not a good dancer make. Try looking for me (FIRST-e, The Dynamos' mascot) at the next competition. I'll prove your theory wrong without even trying I hope to learn, but for now, I just flail and pretend I know what I'm doing

Oh yeah, if you wanna see dancing check out my breakdancing to vanilla ice's Ninja Rap..ok maybe not...lets say that Dexy's Midnight Runners have a better chance of reforming, putting together a new album and bringing down the "Hip-Hop" dominance era...

Re: Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

I think that the rason so many people that are involved in robotics dance because a FIRST competition is a place where people can jsut be them selves. Most students are rather reserved because they are usually worried about their "image" when they are at school or other places. Thats one thing that I think is great about the FIRST orginization, they let "closet" nerds/geeks be themselves as well as let people who love making fools of them selves (namely me) have fun and let loose. BTW did anyone who was at GLR see those guys from Tech-Fusion(0279) dancing, they were the best!

On a lighter note, wow I can't dance! Ask anyone who was at the Great Lakes Regional,(I was the guy in the cape and beanie[my temporary excuse ofr a mscot unifor] that always had the camera) when I was trying to dance with the mascotts, wow that was too fun. Good times, good times.

I really shouldnt be saying this but....Seth and Paul from Gus were slow dancing hand in hand and it was pretty sexy. That was the perfect moment to tape him but i dont know how willing he'll be these days

Re: Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

It's a lot easier to dance when you're hiding behind a mask or team mascot outfit.

Not that I've done it, though. My dancing is reminiscent of Vincent Vega's in Pulp Fiction. That's the best I can do, even when surrounded by fellow nerds.

Watch for a crazy gorrilla at Chicago.

(Sounds a tinsy little bit like footloose...)
Man, what a dork.. That rule was written for Team Socials. In NJ the MC's encouraged the mascots to come up and strut their stuff during the "slow" times.

Re: Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

Can someone actually tell me what the rule against dancing is? Or point me to it (even though I think I lost my handbook for this year somewhere underneath my bed and my locker at school since it has been MIA since...ooo...January! LOL!)

Re: Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

I'm not sure where the 'no dancing' rule is stated.

Why would you deny hot mascots the chance to dance?

Re: Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

I just thumbed through the FIRST manual and didn't find any rule against dancing. I'm thinking with the scaled back rules this year that either they didn't post it or repealed it.

Re: Robotics Members Automatically Good Dancers?

Well let's see, I can do The Robot, Macarena, and can move with a little rhythm, oh, and the YMCA. I've been meaning to learn the "Cotton Eyed Joe" dance, but haven't gotten around to it yet. And I'm okay at DDR.

On another note, I really hate dances, and that included the old team parties (the dancing part anyway). But I guess the team party was really meant for taking an enjoyable night and meeting other people from other teams. I certainly took advantage of that. But now, they're "socials" (which incidently, I've never been to one ever since they started calling them that, but I hear they're not as good), but that's getting off-topic.

One can only hope! Dancing is like a... a... custom, an integral part of competitions! Doing the tick dance is like some sort of wierd initiation into the techno tick family- once you do it- you're a member for life!

Well, enough drama- but i enjoy dancing as much as the next person, no matter how talentless i may be- it's oddly liberating! hahahaHA!

How about swing dancing? They were playing some good swing stuff at the Chesapeake regional and I was tempted to just start asking anyone to dance, but I was still suffering from a head wound. Back to the point, though, does anyone hear know how to swing dance?

There was some swing dance music at UTC and my friend (deanismyidol) and I were working the LEGO booth when our head mentor came out of nowhere and grabbed deanismyidol and started swing dancing with her and then walked away as if nothing happened
