Re: Driving to Championships - ideas?
My team is leaving today for the 14 hour trip to Houston(me not included..too bad, college can be annoying sometimes). One of the english classes gives credit for reports on any of the AFI Top 100 movies so they are taking several of those movies to watch. I know several of these movies aren't quite PG but they get extra credit and the age group is higher this year. We had lots of younger siblings last year and got to watch more animated films (not dissing animated films but come on). Check out if teacher would give any credit for reports on certain movies. I know we all seem to be struggling with grades this time of year.

Re: Driving to Championships - ideas?
We drove to VA with team 839 in 2k2 and it took about 15-16 hours. We filled the time watching different movies and playing cards. We made sure to make a reasonable amount of stops for people to get out, stretch, get ice cream etc. Parents filled up a cooler with snacks and drinks for the ride as well.
It was actually a lot of fun with little effort made to 'entertain'. Then again, maybe we're just easily amused... :-P |

Re: Driving to Championships - ideas?
Oh man, this could be priceless...
Baker, tell me that you are driving an old station wagon with wooden side panels?!?!? What I would give for a picture of that. For some reason, when I think of the Technokats trip, I can't help but think of National Lampoons Vacation! Holiday Rooo-oooo-oooo-oooo-oooo-oooo-oooo-oooo-oooo-oad! Have fun! -Andy Grady |

Re: Driving to Championships - ideas?
Allright... for some of you SERIOUS veteran Technokittens.
This is the game some of us 229ers play to kill time. (It's a good way to keep from falling asleep in Materials Science lectures )2 people play. The first person names a FIRST team name, and their number. The second person does the same with a different team. Write all these teams down, and make sure there are no repeat teams. Keep going until someone can't think of any new teams. (No cheating!) There is some strategy involved, because obviously you want to name the teams that the other person is most familiar with first, then move on to the teams that the other person wouldn't know. For instance, if I was playing against Baker, I would name all the Indiana teams first, then move onto teams I know he's friends with/has partnered with, then move onto the better known national teams, then finally move onto the "obscure" new england teams. Yes... we're FIRST-dorks, but we prefer the term "students-of-the-game". FIRST trivia is also fun. Bring some (Motorola of course) 2 way radios, and play van vs. van. Which van can stump the other one? Also barring that, spend the whole 10 hour trip picking on DJ. ![]() Last edited by JVN : 30-03-2004 at 11:33. Reason: I like typos. |

Re: Driving to Championships - ideas?
I am not sure of any FIRST road trip games having spent only 1 hour each way on the bus and flying the rest. I do know my fair share of standard road games however having made many a 12 hour drives each way over the weekedn to watch HOKIES!!! down in blacksburg. Some of the better ones are mad libs, state plates, roadkill bingo, 20 questions and what not. However one of my more favorite games to play I juts learned a few months ago where it is kinda like a mental strategy/ memorary/knowledg thing. The basic version is you pick any four letter word (appropriate foourletter words). Then everybody tries to guess the word by saying other four letter words and you saying how many are right and how many are in the right place (though not which ones) until they figure it out. It sounds relativly easy but it can go for quite some time even over "bulb" or "dogs." Once you get more advanced you can do more then 4 letters and move up to 5 or 6 or even 7!!! It can get quite amusing (if you are a nerd like that anyways
) The the person who got it right goes next and whoever has the most at the end of the trip, next stop or until sick of the game would be conisdered the winner |

Re: Driving to Championships - ideas?
Team 121 is also driving to Atlanta, were looking at 18-20 hours of driving. FUN! ::sarcasm, sarcasm::
I'm personally out for revenge this year. I remember waking up one year on the bus to find myself being duct taped to the seat, and I'd had my shoe laces tied together. What a fun prison trap that was. Well someone's getting it cause I'm bringin' my duct tape. I suggest u do the same for some good laughs. |

Re: Driving to Championships - ideas?
Team 343 usually has Video tapes of other regionals to watch on the road. Lots of scouting done on the trip there. For us, this time though, it is only a 2 hour drive. This will probably hurt our scouting efforts.
Good luck to all, I look forward to seeing everyone there! |
