Tri-Wheel Designs

Hey Folks,

I've seen a few teams with the so-called "Tri-Wheel" designs this year, for climbing the step. I'm wondering how teams have fared with this design, and if it has showed any weight or performance advantage over other designs (ie. big wheels, pneumatic systems, treads, etc...) At team 228, we tried to build such a system. To put it bluntly, it failed miserably. Is anyone willing to post pictures, drawings, or sketches of their designs? TIA!

Re: Tri-Wheel Designs

there are photos of our triwheels in the buckeye regional photo gallery - they worked extreemly well. We were able to get up on the platform in one step quickly and easily (though we didnt use them for that at the buckeye regional at all)

the team that won the regional had 4 triwheels, and they drove up on the platform like it wasnt even there - team 340

BTW -what do you mean "so-called Tri-Wheel" ?! 3 is 3 right?! :^)

Re: Tri-Wheel Designs

after working out the kinks, our tri wheels have worked extremely well. The biggest advantage is that it is impossible to flip us. We are always able to right ourselves.

Here are some pictures that I have posted on delphi

Parts

From about a week before ship.

Right before ship.

At the Buckeye Regional.

I'll see if the lower mechanical would be willing to do a white paper for you.
