Re: pic: HOT Team Wheels

Call me jealous if you want but I think that is just plain absurd. Money can be spent for so many better things than that. Do you know how many teams you could start with that kind of money? Or how about some scholarships? I know HOT 67 may not have control over what their sponsor gives them but outlandish spending, to me, doesn't seem like one of the ideals of FIRST.

I don't disagree that a trailer for your stuff is a nice thing to have and of course you need a vehicle to pull it around but the same purpose could have been served with much fewer dollars spent.

Re: pic: HOT Team Wheels

HOT was staying at the same hotel as us, so I got to take a peek in while waiting to leave Thursday. They could sell it and feed a third-world country.

(Maybe that's a little extreme...)

It's crazy nice though. Is anyone actually allowed to ride in it?

I seriously doubt they actually paid for the H2 with team money. If it's anything like TechnoKats have been, they are on "permanent loan" to the team. Since its GM they probably have dozens of these things just sitting around. I noticed this year the TechnoKats have a new trailer and a new truck which I'm sure they didn't use team money to buy. Chances are the school took back the bigger trailer and traded, and the truck (since it's a Chevy) was once a test vehicle that's no longer in use....

This is all just a guess, but its' probably pretty close to being true.

Re: pic: HOT Team Wheels

Coming from a GM sponsored team (64) I kinda know what is going on:

GM has lots of cars sitting around that no one uses, for testing purposes. They are a car company. They don't go out and buy these cars for their teams. The teams don't get to keep the cars and certainly cannot sell them. It's just for fun.

If you were GM and you had a couple of teams wouldn't you want to make them look good. They do stuff like this so people will be impressed and jealous. I guess it worked huh?

He hit it right on the bar. That car was a pep car. It was used in a lot of tests. Our old truck was blessed and put to rest this year after traveling the equivilency of, I believe it was, 7 times around the equator. We use the truck/trailer to transport not only all of our parts, but things for other teams too, especially to nationals. And as for the Hummer, yes, it is partially for GM bragging purposes, but it also carries quite a large number of students, and we do use it for that purpose. I'm not sure whether the new Hummer and trailer were paid for by HOT or GM money. I apologize if posting this picture offended anyone, it is just a new thing this year that we're all really proud of.

You should not have to apologize for posting the picture. Those who are condemning you & your team for having such a beautiful vehicle & trailer should do the apologizing.

Shame on everyone for picking on HOT. I thought we already went through this when T3 unveiled their driver controls & when we posted a picture of Wildstang's field. A team can spend its time, money, and resources on whatever it feels will best benefit its students and the FIRST community. A team should not be forced to defend itself for such things.

Instead of whining & complaining put some of that time and energy towards finding sponsors who will donate you cool stuff, or find some parents / community members who will help you build cool stuff. Don't just be jealous (believe me, I'm jealous of the cool cars & trucks the GM teams get) be inspired and try to find a way to get the same goodies.

I'll start off by saying I'm not offended at all (maybe just a tad jealous, okay a little more than a tad ) and that you should be proud of the H2 and the fact that you're backed by a huge corporation as GM.
Car companies donate vehicles all the time. They essentially claim these vehicles as tax write-offs so it becomes a win-win situation. When some of these test vehicles aren't needed anymore the lucky vehicles are donated to organizations like your team or automotive tech schools (so students can learn on the most modern, state-of-art vehicles). The unlucky ones are outright destroyed or destroyed a little more gently by being dismantled and the parts inspected to see how they held up.
So in conclusion CutieBethy, I hope you and your team are proud of General Motors and what they do for you. Being a car company vehicles are the other thing they could donate besides funding.
