Coming from a GM sponsored team (64) I kinda know what is going on:
GM has lots of cars sitting around that no one uses, for testing purposes. They are a car company. They don't go out and buy these cars for their teams. The teams don't get to keep the cars and certainly cannot sell them. It's just for fun. If you were GM and you had a couple of teams wouldn't you want to make them look good. They do stuff like this so people will be impressed and jealous. I guess it worked huh?
