Personally, I don't think this creates a very competitive finals competition because most exceptional teams will be paired with equally exceptional teams, while the lesser teams are only given the option of picking from equally lesser teams. I'm not complaining that the system is unfair; I'm only saying that it creates a single alliance that dominates throughout the finals (not very entertaining to watch as your team gets trounced by the unbeatable alliance)

We were the fourth seed. We got picked by the first seed. We picked a good machine that could grab two goals with our last pick. We were the "unbeatable alliance."

We got trounced in the quarters by the 10th seed.
