If you need any help with recruiting for WPI Brian....just let me or coll or even your best bud Timmy know, and we'll get you whatever information you need....WPI is a really good engineering school and while the 4 quarters is really cool, its a lot of work. One of the best aspects of the school however is their global program. I for one am going to Venice over the summer to work at the project center there for the months of June and July...It looks very good for potential employers later on in life.

congrats everyone

gotta say congrats and great job to everyone who competed at SBPLI this weekend. Some great matches. Also special WOW goes to team 56. We had absolutely no clue you could grab 2 like that, and so fast for a lifter. At nationals we may be spending a little more time around your pit : ) Anyway is it legal to have liquid nitrogen to cool your motors between elimination matches? Cause I think I could swipe some from BNL for team 311. haha sorry just had to get my potshot in. alright I really have to go, cause I have a paper due in 5 hours

Hey Sparky,
Thanx very much. We tried to show that off that we could grab 2 goals like that in practice. In fact we did at least 1 time each practice round. Make sure everyone scouts practice rounds. In the end 496's misfortune of not watching us grab 2 in the practice round came and kicked them in the butt, but very nice robot adn a nice battle to get to the semi's see you in Florida.

scouting

yeah to tell you the truth, around the time that we should have been scouting we were sitting on our hands. seriously we had no thouts at all of being in the top. we were just shooting to get picked into the semis. we were totally shocked to find out we were in first.

Deej,

Thanks for the offer. Matt has been telling me about the schedule being tough (or different I guess due to the quarterly deal), but he also tells me that he likes it that way 'cause he feels it's better for him.

If I get an E-mail from Werner I'll forward it to you guys and maybe you all can work with him.

Tell my 'best bud' Tim that I didn't mean to scare him. I'm sure Matt has filled you in on how I get along with people.

Best of luck in San Jose and looking forward to seeing you guys in Fla.

Now if I can only talk our team into going to Battle Cry............

PS Congrats on the Venice deal. Wonderful time of year to go according to what I've heard.

Hey, hey, one competition we can't afford at a time. If you talk about going to another event I think Doc will have an aneurysm.

But it would be really cool to go, as sort of a last hurrah for the seniors.

Kyle,

It has nothing to do with a last hurrah for the seniors, that's what Florida is for.

Battle Cry would be a great way to "break-in" the freshmen and sophs who need to take over and operate and maintain the robot as well as get the taste of competition in an atmosphere where it's (slightly) less intense than a regional yet still great head-to-head competition.

I agree that Doc's head will probably explode if he has to take in anymore. Winning the chairman's award just about made him go into orbit Saturday!

Congratulations to all the teams at the Long Island regional! This was by far the best regional I have ever had. The regional went great and it was because of the wonderful job done by all the teams. Although I didn't have much of a chance to watch too many matches (though I did get to announce my team's last match...who would've thunk it, I got to introduce teams and give a play by play ) but I was at the scoring table when 311's robot became a fog machine (and I learned very quickly just how bad magic smoke really smells). From what I did see though, everyone did great.

Team 329, I loved your mouse and I'm sorry it got crushed. I thought it was the cutest little thing when I was inspecting your robot. But, I'm really looking forward to seeing it reincarnated at Nats. Congratulations on your award!

Oh, and I have to say, I am quite proud of my team for getting highest rookie seed (you guys may have seen a certain young lady run off the playing field during the awards ceremony when 810 was called and get in line with the team, go down the row of judges, then back onto the playing field...). Congratulations guys! I'll be at NYC coaching.

And congratulations to all the other teams that won awards at the LI Regional. You all were fantastic.

~Christina

Cornell team

But then again I need to consider schools like Cornell and Rensselaer that I also got accepted to, but unfortunately I dont think either one participates in FIRST. Ah well, it's a really tough decision.

Cornell does have a robotics team, 639. I believe they are going to NYC FIRST regional and the Great Lakes regional. This is their second year as a team and it seems like a good and fun team to be on.

I also applied to both schools, I don't believe Rensselaer has a team.

Hmm, what is Battle Cry??

...871 took a victory lap around West Islip High School today Rookie All-Star award strapped to the top while we drove around sitting on a cart pulled by the robot. Heh, that was fun.

Hey, now I know where I know you from (I was the crazy driver with the LED glasses) , We will be returning to the nats with "Mighty Mouse"* (there goes my trip to epcot ), he will be quite buff and literally be as strong as steel (Hopefully the airport wont mind plates of steel and brackets in the suitcases) hope you will come to see him and find a neat surprise (no hints) !!!

p.s. dont worry about it getting crushed, remember "from adversity comes innovation"

Thumbs up

Hey guys, i'm John DiBiasi from Team 230. I never really posted before but I wanted to say that the LI regional was alot of fun and everyone did really well.

Scouting was really key during the practice rounds. We were out watching everyone. Unfortunately we didn't finish the modifications to our robot to get any of ours in on thursday. Our first match out our robot shot out of the starting block and for a second I wasn't sure if the wings were going to go down in time. We snagged the goals pretty well and I'm sure we surprised one or two other people watching.

I forget who it was exactly that mentioned WPI, but I got accepted there too. In fact if you were at the regional you most likely saw me at one point or another (I had my WPI hat on and I am an operator for 230 so i was up on the field). Right now I'm most likely going to be attending WPI in the fall. I'm waiting to hear back from RPI (someone else mentioned them). A member on our team is interested in going there. From what she told me, Renssalaer actually has a joint FIRST team with a local high school or another college. As for Cornell. They don't have FIRST robotics team, but they compete in this other robotics competition. I applied early decision to Cornell Univ. College of Engineering and got rejected :*( I have alot of info from them in my room and a page or two on that other robotics thing.

Hehe, just to keep a long post going. We were up a little after 311 fried their motors there and i was like "Oh man, may those motors R.I.P." At one point i could still smell it and thought we might have burned out our Fisher-Price cause I started to reek at one point earlier in the day when the pullysystem on the wings got jammed. It was alot a fun. We really thought we could go all the way, but we lucked out.

Anyhow, thanks again for a great competition. We're off to the UTC New England Regional down the street in New Haven, CT next. Hope to see a few of you there.

-John DiBiasi
