see you folks at nationals. SWAT Robotics #824 has arrived...
Does it still require 12 people to remove it from the field?

heh, on another note, how's it been working out so far? Care to give out a few more juicy secrets on how it works exactly (hanging, etc.)?

Re: what we hope to do at atlanta...

yes, we are madison's "mystery team", and we indeed will be at atlanta because we prequalified. all i can say is "winch itself up to the bar and lock itself"... just look for us in the black shirts. we are a pretty big team, 25+ college/high school...

ummm, if i remember correctly, didn't your team take like 8 people to put it onto the bar, since the hanging mechinism didn't work.

Re: what we hope to do at atlanta...

haha, i never said anything about how well it worked. but indeed, we did not hang at PNW, instead we focused on fixing the arm so that it would perform more reliably atlanta. it was a strategic decision, because obviously the robot can only be worked on at the competitions -- we could've tried to win regionals but then would never have a chance at nats, or give up PNW and hope to shine at nats... the picture was taken in a practice session, and the robot actually did hang that high by itself... we're keeping our fingers crossed that it'll do so in atlanta.

Well good luck, it would be cool to see it in action. Get a video up or something. The robot looks awesome.

Re: what we hope to do at atlanta...

Looks great in the picture. Were you able to hang at all in Atlanta? I was looking for videos of your robot, and couldn't find any of you hanging.

Re: what we hope to do at atlanta...

I saw their robot at nats and at the PNW Regional, and both times I saw it with no arm. I also heard it took 12 people to lift it to the bar.

Can anyone say hoax?

Cory

Re: what we hope to do at atlanta...

Well, to be fair to the person responsible for the design of the rotating, 12' long telescoping arm, it worked reliably at its functions -- rotating and telescoping.

I did not travel with the team and so I can't speak about what problems they were having with implementing the rest of the robot functions while at competition, however. I have my guesses -- but they're not much more than guesses. I think it'd be a disservice to them if I were to write about them here.

PM me if you'd like to know more about what happened and why you didn't see this behemoth reaching across the skies in Atlanta. I learned valuable lessons about team organization this season and it's not what many people might expect or agree with.
