Why is there a bullet gouge in Dave Lavery's ceiling?

Err wow incredible boredom has taken over me. I visited Dave's site and I found this picture. If you look all the way to the right in this picture it says there is a bullet gouge in the ceiling. http://ranier.hq.nasa.gov/Staff/DavesOfficeMap.html
Also if you see this Dave. Can you tell me more about the robot that looks like a giant white beachball?(AER free flying robot)

Thats his old office in the old HQ. I dont think he's updated lately. Violent part of DC, that explains the bullet hole. You should have seen the bullet holes on the wall outside. Ill tell him to check this post later.

Re: Why is there a bullet gouge in Dave Lavery's ceiling?

I see Dave uses a SGI computer.

My dad worked there for 13 years as the VP of finance in Mountain View.

I didn't think hardly anyone used their machines anymore with the way their business has declined.

I think Dave's been spending too much time at FIRST events with all those papers in his inbox :-P

Yowsers. That would explain the bullet hole. Geez I thought it was a joke but I guess not. He definately needs a battlebot.

Re: Why is there a bullet gouge in Dave Lavery's ceiling?

Yes, the bullet gouge in the ceiling is real. So were the bullet holes in the window.

One evening there was a drug bust in the apartment complex across the street, and a shoot-out erupted between the police and the gang members. Several wild shots came toward our building, and two came through my office window. One lodged in between the panes of the window, and the other struck the ceiling.

There is a reason that I place my computer between my desk and the window - it affords some protection against incoming projectiles. I have since moved to a new office (I need to update the diagram on the web page), but still am very careful when looking out the window...
