Re: wifi at nats

What is the range on that thing?? Will I be able to pick it up at the competition venue, or at my hotel a few blocks away??

Sorry for the dumb questions, I just got a wireless card last night to play around with on my lappy for a few days while I am in Atlanta from a team member who could not make it.

I'm in the North Tower and I'm getting a "Low" connection rating, so I don't know if it will be possible to get wireless at the dome, i can see it from my window, but thats still pretty far for a signal to go. I'll give it a try first thing tommorrow and let you know, perhaps I'll even wander the halls tonight and see if I can find the best spots to get the wireless connection.

Re: wifi at nats

The hotel we're in, the Marriott Residence Inn, also has free WiFi access. However, we're about a mile from the venue.

Re: wifi at nats

The big question is is there wifi at the Georgia Dome? A wireless network isn't going to reach a mile from a hotel. The wireless card Elgin has is 802.11b. I've never tried to test the distance of it but I do know it's capable of working out in my backyard, about 200' from the base antennea. There's a lot of variables that can come into play with the distance or if the card will work at all. Cordless phones on the 2.4ghz frequency can interfere with the signal. Microwaves and also the structure (walls, floors, ect.) can also cause issues. It all comes down to where the base antennea is located and how close you are to it. Some places also have repeaters and/or signal boosters which can help.

Re: wifi at nats

Team 492 will set up a Wi-Fi network within the Georgia Dome, while it was intended to be used solely for scouting pourposes, our team has decided to allow all teams to use this network, in order to share files and the like with other participants. Feel free to thank us at the competition!
