So What's Going On At GLR?

Hey, can someone fill those of us stuck at work in as to how things are going at the Great Lakes Regional?

I realize today is only practice, but who looks impressive, etc.?

tough competition

Kevin, sorry to hear you're stuck at work this weekend. Chris and the rest of your team were working like mad due to the engineer shortage. It looks like they have everything working perfectly. Look for 308 to be a contender.

This is my first time at GLR, and I like it already. Nice intimate venue; it was quiet today, but I expect there to be a loud and excited crowd the next two days.

Now on to the robots... what impressed me the most was 469. I saw them win at Buckeye, but I didn't know how powerful they really were. During the practice session they squared off against 67 and it evolved into a pulling match between the two teams. 469 dragged 2 goals and 67 across the field, an impressive feat given the power and traction we all know 67 has.

If the notepad I took my scouting notes on didn't walk off I would have had a more complete review

I have to go catch up with the bus that left without me for dinner. I'll post more tonight if I think of anything.

Mike

Pretty Hectic

This year more than the past I have seen a great many robots unassembled and getting modified. I think a bunch of people are overwieght too since I see soooo many people weighing in their batteries separately. This is our first year able to operate straight out of the box and I would say at least 1/4 of the robots were no-shows for practice today leaving only their operators out there to throw balls. I guess the pits are open until 8 hope everyone gets it all together by tommorrow.

Good Luck to everyone

Great Lakes is shaping up to be a very competitive regional. Some very good veteran teams, as well as scores of other robots have showed up. #111 and #67 both look to be good ball-handlers. Even though they where experiencing some technical difficulties with their ball collector, I was very impressed by #47. I saw it dump a lot of balls into a goal during a practice run, and then hold on to it while moving sideways. #470 also had a unique design, starting vertical and then falling over (without breaking), and then being able to very, very firmly latch onto a goal. I've also noticed a few rookies that looked like they where in better shape than some of the other teams. As for #66, we've got a few tricks up our sleeve, and hopefully we'll be able to work them to our advantage tommorrow.

Yes, i did like team 470, they did have a kick-butt robot, but today, not even the Wild-Mustangs could stop them. They grabbed a hold of that goal, and they even dragged the Mustangs!! Lol, no way in heck did i think that was going to happen... P.S. How do you ppl like our robot (Team 5) i think we have the possability to be real contenders...

clarification?

Matt, which team are you talking about? Do you mean 111? If so, we didn't get pushed around by them, we pushed them clear across the field from our driver's station to the goal scoring zone.
