We couldn't move side to while we were hanging, but we could move side to side after we were hooked to the bar. We would hook ourselves to the bar, then using our omnidirectional drive system we would strafe side to side. When the time came to hang, we could just "pop" the pneumatic lifters on our wheels, or retract our extension to get us off the ground.

Re: Who was the best hanger?

the shovel thing (actually termed the mailbox) was not added until nationals. it is not a tank tread, but a small belt that runs over some beveled rollers (i believe). I've had to face tribe more times than i would have liked to, so i can definitely attest to the fact that they are extremely adept at transversing the bar.

Re: Who was the best hanger?

Team 237, was one of the most impressive bots i've seen this year. We had to go against them in the semis at trenton and this is the result: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/pi...&quiet=Verbose

That was a great match, and from what i hear, part of the reason team 237 changed the top of their shimmy.

Re: Who was the best hanger?

Wow, is all I can say with the commotion of our shimmy bot. I think that our bot was pretty awesome at hanging, but i still cant fathom that 190 could actually hang in auto and be so centered! Now there is an awesome feat. Also 330 climbing in auto was also a great feat.

And just to clear some stuff up, yes we do hang and shimmy (strafe) at the same time. Also, we added the "mailbox" also known as the dome of doom which 494 can tell you about at the national competition in able to cover a larger area of the bar because we are somewhat slow on the bar. But thank you to everyone on the nice comments and I hope to see yall at the mini comps. (BTB in about a month, cant wait!)

Re: Who was the best hanger?

I liked the Gila Monsters (64) bar shimmying or whatever you want to call it device. It was impressive to watch. We were able to hang against though. But it made so it was easy for their partner to hang and we lost.

Re: Who was the best hanger?

I liked our hook idea (and everyone else that used it in the same way)... The hook was attached to our arm then we would attach it to the bar and put our arm down, next turn side ways and block any bots needing to get up to the second platform or we could get off the platforms and defend... Then in the very end reel it in... we finally got it to work in NY but it didn't in NJ...

at the nj regional we turned out to be the only robot to actually get up on the top platform and hang against them....but it didnt count cuz we actually hung on the top of their hook

Thank you for the kind words. I had the honor of sitting with team 1108 for most of Friday. You good people are a class act. From your garbage can lids to the respect between students and parents, 1108 is a great FIRST Team. Just for the record: Had we not been picked by team 222, 1108 was our first choice. Hope to see all of you next year. I have an idea, why not come to the Arizona Regional next year!
