SPAM Jr.?!

To our surprise, we have discovered another team, 1190, who calls themselves SPAM. (Super Powerful All Mechanical) How rare! But anyhow, I hope that as their team grows, we will always be remembered and loved as the first and greatest SPAM. Too bad their aren't copyright laws for FIRST team names. I mean, we can't have the same number, why can we have the same name? Oh,well. As long as they don't steal our cheers, or our popularity.

What do you guys think?

yeah i'm soo upset about this finding-- complete shock to our whole team-- we know that can't have the same number but the same name is just as messed up--
no offense to anybody on team 1190--the other spam team but we have been using the name S.P.A.M. for the past 7 years and well everyone know us as S.P.A.M.--crazy ppl from Florida and well it's hard cause teams know us by S.P.A.M. not by team 180-- i guessing they won't be changing their name no copyright laws but i wish they would-- but we are the original S.P.A.M. and always will be. So go S.P.A.M. TEAM 180!!!!

-no offense again to anyone out there--but i just luv my team ofcourse and S.P.A.M. is my life!!!

I think S.P.A.M. is all of our lives Tiff... Well, anyways, Team 180 has been known as S.P.A.M. since our first year, 7 years ago. S.P.A.M. is not only our name, but it represents our team. South Fork High School, Pratt and Whitney, And Martin County High School. S.P.A.M. is us, and what we do. Everyone has known S.P.A.M. to be the team with the red capes, and superman (but SuperS.P.A.M.) symbols across the front of the t-shirt. Now, we don't mind the fact that S.P.A.M. is such a cool name that other teams want it, but we would like to stay the one and only S.P.A.M. Team 180 will stay known as S.P.A.M. forever.

I thought about that. But they don't even know about us! So it's doubtful they were trying to flatter us. I think they were just trying to be original but they didnt succeed because we beat them to it by 7 years.

Maybe we should adopt them. I think they live far away from us though. Perhaps we can convince them to be M.A.P.S. instead.

Not to offend any of you, but I think you're taking this the wrong way.

So they share a team name with you. There's tons of teams out there that have similar names, and even some that share names. Trust me, if they get enough people confusing their team with yours, they'll most likely change it, so that they can build their own niche.

But to go on and say "we were the first ones, we're the better one"....there's no need to bash a team for their ignorance on a public forum, even indirectly. As denoted by their number, they're still in their early stages of growth. Give them time.

Gunn Robotics, team 192 has been called G-Force for many years. Team 535 calls themselves G-Force too. I'm sure there's tons of other instances of this as well. It isn't really that big a deal.

Thank you for your input. They've already changed their name once, and they might do it again if they find it too confusing. I just think its crazy that someone else would think of SPAM. But, like I said, maybe we should get to know them and help them out. I didn't mean to put down anyone.

as i said no offense-- i know there are teams with similar names but for us on our team it's really hard since not many teams know our number only know us by S.P.AM.-- we really aren't trying to be mean or anything-- we just wanted to know what ppl though about having another team with our name-- we just find it really weird and upsetting--cause it was a really cool name to have that worked with our major sponsors- and two high schools--- sry again to affend again one-- just remember that it is S.P.A.M. 180 if u ever need anything-- we are always willing to help and do anything for other teams

and we are willing to help this new team out-- even though they are far away

I think that your team will never lose their 'popularity' by someone else having 'your' name, but I do think that you'd probably be looked upon more favorably if you opened up your resources, talent, and engineering skills to this team instead of trying reinstate that you have the 'hottest' girls. There's no need to try to convince them to get another name - they're probably happy with the one they have.

It's a name. Just because Amanda M. from Team 60 has the same initials as myself means I'm going to come onto Chief Delphi and make sure everyone knows 'I'm older, so I'm the best Amanda M.!' - sounds like a ridiculous concept, doesn't it?

Soon, there will be over 1000 teams that are trying to individualize themselves from others. Here's a tip - build a great robot, and nobody will ever forget your name.

okay april making that comment with s.p.a.m. girls and maps was just a joke-- plz ppl don't take offense to that-- april and i nor any other member of team 180 s.p.a.m. is tryign to bash anyone or mean any disrespect to anyone or any team especially this other team--

Sorry once more if we offened anyone-- TEAM S.P.A.M. is a graciously profesional team-- and if we have offened you plz we are sry, and hope u forgive us.

oh and just to let u know we do already have great bots that's why ppl know us and once again ppl just know us by our name not number that's why it's weird for us--we try to get ppl to associate S.P.A.M. with 180-- doesn't seem to work that's why the name is important to us-- and yes it's just a name but it means so much to us-- and once again no offense to anybody
