Well, I decided to duplicate that search, and his white paper was the #1 result. I also found a result on RateMyProfessors.com that says that he is helpful and clear, but very hard and not very hot.

Brandon, how is CD able to know that a person is coming from Google? And what they searched for?

Go search something on Google. When you are at the results page, check the URL. The terms you searched for are contained in the URL. When you click a link in the results (to chiefdelphi.com for instance), that URL is sent to our server as the 'referrer'. The stats programs we use (webalizer, analog, etc) know all of the popular search engines, and how their referrer URL is composed, and they can pull that info out of the URL and make neat stats from it.

Hope that explains it enough. Let me know if not ..

Re: Site Stats...

Is there any way to see a list of what has been searched for most often internally on CD?

From the Search button on the CD menu bar?

Those stats aren't kept track of in vBulletin. Recent searches are kept, and we could probably do something interesting with that, but the search history only goes back so far (for performance reasons, I think).

I take offence to this Joe. I just checked it out and the only rating I got on that site said I was hot. I even have a hot pepper next to my name. Hmmph.

Posting wrong information about my team or robot, I'll let that go. But when it comes to my good looks, you've got another thing coming...

You are correct. I assumed that Hot was on a 1-5 scale like the others, in which case you go a 1. However, Hot is ranked on a hot or not scale (+1 or -1) and since you have a positive hot score you are hot. Now I need to meet you in person to judge your hotness for myself, since I've learned to never trust the online professor evaluation sites.

Trust me when I say that the only time Karthik is hot is when you are truthful and tell him the many weaknesses of his robot. Steam rises and the verbal abuse begins as he tries, WITHOUT SUCCESS I MIGHT ADD, to defend poor Simbot Simeon.

I don't usually need to defend Simbot Simon, his accomplishments speak for himself. You come check out the trophy case at GM when it's done. It's kind of big...

//Steve,

I think neither of us can go more than five messages without making fun of each other, on either this board or the Canadian Regional forum...

Re: Site Stats...

"Simbot Simian." I never thought of it, but 1114's machine is pretty much the 188 definition of a monkeybot, which I'm pretty sure you're familiar with. That's too good. Also, on the subject of your previous claim, might I suggest you not list your Who Am I image on the forum? Either that or replace it with something you'd expect from such a wild claim.

I read their name as "Simbot Simon", which goes well with "Simbot Sally". I think there's monkey business going on in your head

I think Jon was just trying to create a pun out of Steve's earlier typo. "Simbot Simian" is a good name for our initial design, which was a fully capable monkey bot. We gave up on that pretty early on though. I'll upload a white paper at some point.

Simon and Sally are a good pair. Lets see what we come up with next year.

The Simbotics-Woburn rivalry is a good one. It keeps all of us entertained to say the least. What makes it so special is the deep dark secret that we try and hide from the rest of the world...somewhere down there we actually like each other.

Then again, that might not last if we steal more of your team members...
