Mr. Bill
Good idea. The application says that taping is this fall and ends in December.

So, I need to put together this 3 minute video. I am supposed to say who I am and why I would make the ultimate survivor. Here is my outline below. You guys can help me make it better. Right now, it is probably too wordy, and it needs to have portions cut out (this depends on what video cuts I get). I would be saying the things written as I talk to the camera. Feel free to give feedback to make it better.

“Put Andy on Survivor” 3 minute video

(Andy in back yard of his house, with camera on close up and woods in the background)

“Hi, my name is Andy Baker. I grew up in small town Indiana and have a very good life. I am fortuneate to have a great wife and 3 daughters.”

(walks inside house to wife and kids)

“Mary and I both grew up in the area and have lots of family around. We go to church and live a steady life. I’ve got it pretty good here, with a beautiful wife, great kids, a nice house and a good job.

I work as a mechanical engineer in Kokomo at Delphi Electronics and Safety. Delphi is a huge company that makes automotive electonics. We have plants around the world, and gobs of people work in the Kokomo plant. I’ve worked here for 13 years, since I graduated from college. On my job, I design automated equipment for our production lines. I design on a computer, using CAD to make machines that the operators use on the production floor… it’s pretty cool and I like it.

A few years ago, Delphi asked me to help out a local robotics team that included many high school students being led by some engineers and teachers. This team builds robots in a nationwide competition called FIRST Robotics. I got involved in 1998 and have been a coach on this team for 7 years. It has been a great experience. I get to coach kids, design competition robots, and be a positive role model. I absolutely love it. After playing sports in high school and college and being in a local rock band, I can easily say that this robotics team thing is the coolest thing I have ever done. Heck, we even made ESPN!”

(play short clip of 1998 National Championship from ESPN)… then..

(play short clip of Andy winning WFA)

There are many robotics teams around the nation and even some in other countries. This is a huge education trend with kids and adults working together to learn technology. Within this community of robotics competition, I have lots of friends:

(play clips of “Put Andy on Survivor”)

(Andy with guys in friend’s basement, playing poker)

Sometimes, I get to hang out with friends. Poker is cool to play with the guys, but we seem to just give our money back and forth to each other. Just getting together to do something fun is great, since we all have busy schedules. I like to cut loose when I get a chance, but as I get older those times get fewer.

(arm around Mom, in farm lot with hogs in background)

Against my mom’s wishes, I watched too much TV as a kid. Heck, I still like to watch many shows. (points to house and wispers) They don’t even have cable here!

I’ve liked the “reality shows” since they began with the Real World in the early 90’s. Mary and I have watched some of the Survivor seasons and I would like to show how a normal guy from Indiana can “outwit, outsmart, and outplay” all of these other ya-hoos. With my design, competition, and strategy background combined with a farm-boy work ethic, I could kick some serious butt. I’ll tell you right now that when I win a million, I am coming right back here to my good job, nice house, great kids and beautiful wife.

So… "Put Andy on Survivor!"

---------------

So... kick the tires and let me know what to change.

Thanks,
Andy
