Did Team 505 do it on purpose

In NYC FIRST, during the selection stege, Team 505 declined to be paired with the first seeded team. Now the rules are that if you decline you can not be chosen again. Apparently I heard that they were waiting for the 2nd seeded team to pick them but they couldn't because of that rule.

Then to make it even more interesting, Team 505 other seeded teams tried to pick them. And they did not make it to the finals.

Do you think that they screwed themselves out of the competition or did they not want to be in it?

What I heard

Im not sure If this is true or not, or maybe it even was a different team.

From what I heard, was that 505's robot wasn't working, and that is why they declined.

Chances are, the person who told me that was talking about another team.
