Actually, the simple (long term) solution is to develop renewable energy sources. Sooner or later it has to be done. Whether the world runs out of oil in our lifetime, or the next, it is going to happen, and drilling in the ANWR will not do anything to stop that. I'd rather have the technology available before the oil is about to run out, rather than being stuck between a rock and a very hard place.
