Announcement: The 2004 IRI Talent Show!

Are you a great singer? Do you juggle pretty well? A magician? Do you have a talent that you'd like to show off?

The 2004 IRI Talent Show is looking for acts! The Talent Show will be on Friday, July 9th, and will be approx. two hours long. We're hoping to have acts that are ten minutes long, showcasing the most talented and interesting individuals that FIRST has to offer! Mentors - we'd especially like to see you performing and showing your stuff to the FIRST community!

There will be a panel of FIRST Celebrity Judges. There will be some AWESOME prizes given out! We'll announce the winner(s) at the end of the show.

Requirements:
- If you need music, equipment, etc., you must bring it on your own. Please also inform us beforehand so that we can accommodate. The IRI committee and the Talent Show committee are not responsible for your property.
- You must have an act that is over three minutes but not over ten minutes. You do not have to perform the full ten minutes if you so desire.
- You may perform with someone else. Two people acts or Twenty people acts, either way is fine. Please let us know whom all will be performing before your skit.
- We're welcoming talent of ANY kind. Depending on number of spots, you may or may not get into the show. Let us know about your act AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

If you have any questions about this, PM David Kelly or myself. You can also reach us at
(David) dkelly@indianafirst.org
(Amanda) amorrison@indianafirst.org

We're looking forward to seeing you perform!

This seems to good to be true. I guess I have to show up now. This could be a great way for me to practice for my inevitable Canadian Idol audition. Look out Righteous Brothers, here I come...

Hey, now, I think you have to be a member of a participating IRI team to join in the fun. You must either bring the entire 1114 crew down to Indy in July, or accept an invitation from Team 48 to become an honorary member for the weekend. I think either option would be acceptable to us.

I don't know how likely it is for 1114 to make it down to IRI, but it's still up for discussion. If I do come down on my own, I'll jump at the chance to toss on a Team 48 shirt. I just hope you don't pull this offer away once you hear me sing...

Re: Announcement: The 2004 IRI Talent Show!

Um, you guys might want to check this out... David and I got an anonymous email this morning...

________________
David Kelly and Amanda Morrison,

We have heard about your "IRI talent show". We are a 5-person rock band who are masters at creating loud resonance frequencies with our instruments. Coming out of New Hampshire, we would like to show you midwesterners how to rock. All 5 of us were on FIRST teams at one point, but we all were rejected in last year's volunteer screening process. Being FIRST outcasts, we turned to rock and roll. Four of us are long-lost relatives of Dean Kamen and you might recognize our bassist, who was with the band "Slobber" in the 80's.

Our members are:

Dean Simmons (bass)
Ozzy Kamen (vocals)
Slash Kamen (guitar)
Eddie Van Kamen (guitar)
Lars Kamen (drums)

We hope you let us play, as we just got a new (to us) '79 Chevy Van to make the trip from Manchester to Indianapolis. We are starting to wear out our welcome in the venues in this area and we are looking for some new fans. Well, we just need any fans we can find.

Is there a campground nearby? Are there any Krispy Kreme's in Indianapolis? Can we use the showers at the event?

Please let us play, we want to give back to FIRST, although we can't be on teams any more.

Sincerely,
Dean Simmons and the Kamens

Re: Announcement: The 2004 IRI Talent Show!

UPDATE from Dean Simmons and the Kamens:

-----------------

Ms. Morrison and Mr. Kelly,
We figured that you may want a picture of us. Last summer, at the Kamen family reunion, we got to ride Deanie's Segway thing. Eddie took some pictures and here they are. It was funny when Slash ran into Dad's car. The dent was not too big, but Dean was mad that we cracked a fender on his Segway. He is picky that way. Also, we are not sure about some of those campground selections you gave us. That French Lick place sounds wicked fun, but how far away is it from the gig?

Hey, since you were so kind before, we have some more questions. Can we set off pyrotechnics? We played a gig in Chicopee last month and they liked it when we blew up things. Do you allow this? We could bring a goat for part of our stage show, if you think that would help.

Sorry for all of my questions. We just want to do the best we can for the kids.

Rock and Roll,

Dean Simmons and the Kamens

Re: Announcement: The 2004 IRI Talent Show!

Coming out of New Hampshire, we would like to show you midwesterners how to rock.
OK, now I am upset. I have called my friends Johnny Cougar (I still prefer his original name) and Bob Seger - prepare for the IRI version of 'Dueling Banjo's".

All 5 of us were on FIRST teams at one point, but we all were rejected in last year's volunteer screening process.
I now have much more faith in that screening process.

You might recognize our bassist, who was with the band "Slobber" in the 80's.
Based on his current age, is he now performing with "Drool"?

We hope you let us play, as we just got a new (to us) '79 Chevy Van
I'll notify the local police, and AAA Wrecker Service

Is there a campground nearby?
Ooops, sorry, when you get to Indiana you have passed by Woodstock. We stay in hotels.

Can we use the showers at the event?
No, there are wastewater standards in the city. We can give you directions to the White River, famous for recent fish kills due to industrial dumping.

That French Lick place sounds wicked fun, but how far away is it from the gig?
It is real close, especially by 1978 Chevy Van (I assume it has a 350 "pre-emissions" V8 powerhouse. I will book you a campsite.

Can we set off pyrotechnics?
No. That could set off a chain reaction. We have Walter the Farting Dog and several 'fragrant' FIRSTers at this event.

We could bring a goat for part of our stage show, if you think that would help.
Good idea. If Ritchie runs out of burgers we can have Goat-Mc-Macs.Just keep it away from the farm kids.
