Nice find John. It wasn't a really hard game but I did find that driving the rover in remote mode on the moon was a bit difficult (and a tad annoying) with the built in delay that simulates the time it takes for signals to travel between Earth and Mars until I got used to it. I drove into a crater because of that and I suggest not squeezing between rocks and craters like I did until you're used to the delay or just go in autonomous mode. Lucky it was just a game but if this was real there's no "reset" button to start over once you lose a rover in a crater or on rocks.
And if this was real I wonder if a box of Krispy Kremes would make Dave forget what I did to his rover!

I played it and managed to get to the goal without driving into any craters or over any rocks! And I found Neil Armstrong's footprints!

Now if we can just re-wire the simulator to drop a 428 Cobra Jet into the rover, we will really have something...

Forget the simulator, what about the real thing! You would have to settle for a Chevy 427 though like this one Or, for about $245,000 more you can drop a
Viper V10 into it. (Gosh, that's more than a whole real Viper).

Now all we have to do is get air on Mars so we can run engines like these.

Note: In case you were wondering, both of those are fully functioning engines. Cool huh?

OK, time for the gloves to come off..

Those model engines are cool, but if we really wanted to go, then we need to talk either a Ford GT 5.4 liter 520-HP V-8 (for the thrift minded among us), or go all-out with the Bugatti Veyron 1001 HP W-16 cylinder monster.

In either case, with the given mass-to-power ratio, I think that we could reach orbital velocities pretty easily.

Of course, there is still that nasty little matter of not enough oxygen to sustain an internal combustion engine, but we can take care of that problem when we get there...

/me wonders if spin rims would work on mars' surface? I wonder if there is enough gravity to make them work..
