Go to Post I'm wondering just what you think the people who DID set this system up actually do for a living instead? Sheep farmers? - DonRotolo [more]

1. Blues, because of the pure emotion, the improvisation, and
the musical craftsmanship.

Rock and roll for the attitude and power (mainly classic rock)

Country (classic and Texan) for the sound, the laid-back feel,
for steel guitars and harmonicas, for musicians who don't
take themselves seriously and have a good time

Funk, Techno, other - Artists and songs can strike my fancy at any time without my prior knowledge or participation: see Nikka
Costa and Eagle Eye Cherry

2. Cake, BB King, Robert Earl Keen, Eric Clapton (old stuff), Monte
Montgomery, John Lee Hooker, Hank III (that's a new one),
Rolling Stones, Guess Who, Pink Floyd, Green Day, Squirrel
Nut Zippers, Sinatra, Garth Brooks, Propellerheads

3. I can barely play harmonica, but BB King's guitar is my favorite
instrument.

4. I have little patience for super-poppy stuff. Boy and girl bands
and the like, but there are exceptions to every rule.

5. For some reason, I like Van Halen less than any other white
American male between the ages of 18 and 35. That isn't to
say that I won't sing along if their song comes on the radio,
I'll just be wishing it was something else.

Here's the deal on Country music, for those of you that are looking for a scoop: I started listening to Country in Jr. HS, but after 4 years, I discovered that it all sounded the same. I couldn't tell one band from another, save for a few exceptions. So I quit listening to country and broadened my musical horizons.

After college, though, I moved to Texas - and lo and behold -found a completely new style of country music that I'd never heard before! If anyone likes country, but is tired of the same old thing, or doesn't like country, but has an open mind, seek ye out Robert Earl Keen. You'll be glad you did.
