It was fun, but...

When we made the gutsy move to pick the Technokats over Beatty, we knew the elims and especially the finals would be fun and exciting (if Beatty & us both made it through). I don't know of any spectators that were disappointed. We love to put on a good show at our local regional.

It was exciting, but a disappointing way to end an outstanding regional.

The competition was tough. This morning at least 6 teams had a solid shot at #1 seed and it came down to the final match of the day. Teams 107 and 269 put forth an outstanding effort and kept us sweating.

Our alliance of 111, 45, & 79 had a great shot at defeating Beatty (we found a few weaknesses in their bot & strategy). We had the right strategy but we couldn't execute. In the first match of the finals, 45 shut down in the initial goal impact and the door for our tongue wouldn't open. Result: 36-26 loss. In the second match Beatty dominated 2 goals but with the help of the Technokats we trapped 519 in our endzone. It would have been a 30-28 victory if we didn't accidentally score 2 balls in our opponent's goal. Result 30-30 loss. Winning 2nd place is a great accomplishment, but it's always hard to accept immediately after losing.

It's a tough way to lose, but we all had a wonerful time and that's the real point of these competitions.

I must extend a HUGE congradulations to the Technokats for winning the Regional Chairman's award. They are a top notch team and I can't think of a better team to win it.

Mike

It was great!

Yea, we we're thinking WildStang was going to take Beatty/Hammond, but we're wrong as we headed over to the TechnoKats and found them talking to #111, then we had hope to get #71 but found them talking to #107. So we did what we could and it was a great time and thanks to everyone!!!

beatty

Based on the scores of the matches (I couldn't get the stream) it looks as if beatty may only be a 2 goal robot as opposed to a 3 goal grabber. If someone who was there would clear this up, that would be great. Also, if they are a 3 goal bot, how effective are they?

Thanks
Joe

Beatty is unstoppable!!!!

Beatty is definetely a strong, strong 3 goal bot. In the Quals they took one of their arms off one time so then they were just a 2 goal bot, but in the Finals they were a 3, and once they got all 3, or just 2...it was done, we did our best against them.

Beatty is a 3 goal grabber. THey proved in the elimiation rounds that they can hold their own (and the 3 goals)

Beatty seems to be a 3 goal robot, at least from what I have been reading.

Beatty is indeed a 3 goal grabbing robot.

They can, however take one of their arms off and put in its place a send-home device. That's what they did in qualification rounds...

In the match where we got stopped, we did not trip out circuit breaker. We were shifting from high to low as we pushed a goal, and our electrical voltage dropped below 8.0 volts from the high amps we pulled. The controller crashed, so to get going again we would have needed to go out on the field and reset, because the radio modems were confused.

I'd also like to thank our alliance partners, 111 and 79.

Thanks again for all your data and your stream
We recorded nearly 15,000 hits on the stream at sigmacat.com over the weekend. WOW!!! Also consider that the machines used to stream were all below 300MHz (what were we thinking
?) and the ThunderChickens (217) ate up a ton of our bandwidth as they uploaded pix from the event LiVE as we opened up to all teams access to the Inet. We actually overloaded one of our donated (by Nextland) 802.11 WAPs by having too many DHCP Clients. The company's CEO was impressed (and maybe slightly embarassed ) and had his developers send us a patch overnight.

All things considered this was not bad considering we walked into the event thinking this was just some cool would-be-nice-if-we-get-it-to-work idea. It all came together in < 1 week of time too. Like I mentioned earlier we can only get better!!!

Elimination Movies to be posted Monday 4/1 (and that's no April fooling...pending no bizarre network outages)

Qualifying matches- we'll see how soon FedEx delivers the crate.....

DVD-R of all matches hopefully available soon as well.

Hey SOAP,

Thanks again for letting us tag onto your hookup. It was a huge success and you were the hands down favorite for the Sportsmanship award, congratulations. Anyway, the Thunderchickens thank-you many times over for your generousity.

unstoppable...I think not

I fully believe that it have been proven in the MMR that Beatty is beatable. They are simply a Goliath all you need is a brave David. Hit or slam them in the right place and they are stuck. All you have to do it get it just right. They tried to modify their robot to counter that, but the strategy worked a second time. Now don't get me wrong, Beatty is an incredible robot-just not invinceable.
