Your idea was probably already pondered and shot down... Bristol TEC was supposed to close that gap over 195, but they didn't have the money or something, I guess they're doing something with the other 17 Tech schools instead of robotics, and their students will continue working with other teams instead.

Re: pic: FIRST in CT

Sorry, 236 and 521 did get chopped off on accident. I uploaded a fixed one.

I also took an educated guess for 716. They're officially from Falls Village, but it's not on the map. The logo should be in the general area though. If it's wrong, let me know and I'll fix it.

And, yes. most teams are either right off I-84 or I-91. And the teams on the coast are near I-95.

someone should make a national vecctor based map, that shows all of the teams in the us. In the meantime, a separate gallery category would help.

Re: pic: FIRST in CT

I like how CT has most of the 170 series numbers......173, 175, 176, 177, and 178. There are more teams here in CT than I previously thought.
Now if we could get another team up near Norfolk or Colebrook we could have the northwest corner taken care of. The problem is these towns have more farm animals than people!

As was explained to me, in times long ago in FIRST, the teams were numbered by their main sponsor in alphabetical order.

All those #170 something teams that you mentioned have UTC as a sponsor.

Juust like almost all of the #40 something teams have (had) Delphi as a sponsor.

There's a bit of FIRST history for you!

I heard awhile back that a few students from Oliver Wolcott Tech in Torrington were interested in FIRST. I think the problem was the key phrase "a few students". There wasn't enough students interested to make it a reality although if they had put thier minds and effort to it it might have happened. In case you're curious I heard this from someone who had graduated from Oliver Wolcott.

We had kids from Kaynor Tech on the team for a while there as well, till our dumb school board said that we could not have students on the team from other schools - totally going against the beliefs of FIRST and our team for the expansion of exposure to FIRST and thus science and technology. :sigh:
The Kaynor Tech students (now grads) still stop by once in a while and help out where they can.

Just think how RAGE (or other multiple school based teams) would look like if their school's administration was as closed minded as ours.

RAGE is CONSTANTLY apprising our primary school boards of our accomplishments and coming before the school board meetings several times a year so they are aware of what a great program FIRST is. The school and town administrators of all our 5 high schools receive frequent e-mails and monthly newsletters from us. We encourage them to visit our practice facility and be sure to point out that our primary strength is in our diversity and ability to be teammates on the FIRST playing field, while being rivals on the sports fields. We are able to have a practice facility in East Hartford and our "build" and CNC facility reside in Rockville, with students traveling to each. We recognize that we are fortunate to have this arrangement and work hard to keep it going.

Yeah actually 237 is how I got into robotics. We did a reasearch project at Kaynor Tech on the Web, then I found Utitec does/did sposnor you guys (I work for them).. We had a small group of like 4 kids who we're interested in team 237 (all out of town students), but your board of education made the decison that we couldn't join (unless Kaynor paid some of the insurance, and that's just not realistic out of our school, we can't even afford to keep all our best and highest paid teachers). The Kaynor students who were interested do understand that the decison was made by above your advisors and it's not directly your team's call.
