Budget OI/RC for testing

I just ordered some free sample microcontrollers from microchip. 3 of them are the same as the one in the RC so this got me to thinking. I figure I could probably rig up a serial connection between 2 of them, RS232 so you could drop in a radio link relatively easily, and then transmit the inputs on one to the other, sort of building an OI; then making a similar deal for the RC, since they are the same as the one already in the RC, they should act *almost* the same as a genuine IFI controller. And before you point it out, yes i am aware that there is alot of other processors in the OI/RC but for most programmers, this could grow to be an *almost* free method of being able to test some programs at home. Keeping in mind that Microchip will send out free samples, and connectors for joysticks and whatnot don't cost that much, you could theoretically build a tethered version for next to nothing, and one with a radio link for under $200.

Please bear in mind that this was just a thought i had of something i may be able to do with these free microcontrollers, I'm not even sure if it is possible.

Anyway, I thought I'd throw this idea out here, and see if anybody has anything to add to it.
