Re: Sibblings

I'm a middle child, and I think that it's really hard. It's when you're a teenager is the worst. Mainly because the parents get slightly overprotective of you because they don't want to make the same mistakes that they made with your older sibling with you. Also, if your younger sibling is in their adolescence...they tend to be treated "better" and with more attention. =D So you're kind of stuck in the middle and don't really know what to do about it.
I honestly don't find many problems being the middle child. I like it sometimes, but every kid has issues with their status in the family. =)
Good thread, Scott!

I'm the oldest, and its tough sometimes because you're the example and can't really make any misteps. Also, you're the guinea pig for the parents.

Re: Sibblings

I'm the oldest of four, and have three sisters. I dont think being oldest is too bad, but there are definately some drawbacks. Parents kind of "learn" parenting on you, so there are some "experimental" treatments. There's also more pressure to not make any mistakes, because you have to set an example. Many personal choices that you make are scrutinized by your parents because "You're setting that example for your younger siblings." Just my $.02

Re: Sibblings

HAHA-youngest and i get treated the best lol-its probably the easiest-because your parents now know how to treat you, from their mistakes, and they tend to be more leniant because the older siblings are doing something, so they just let you go along.
Definitely no complaints.

I'm the oldest, but there are only 2 of us. My little* brother and I are very different, so I don't know how effective of a 'guinea pig' I am for my parents. For the most part though, my parents treat us exactly the same concerning privleges and freedom at certain ages.

*(I'm a senior, my bro is in 8th grade- He has a good 6 inches on me)

Re: Sibblings

I'm an only child. For the most part, being an only child isn't that bad. The only real problem is that when I was younger, other kids assumed I always got everything i wanted which was never true. Also when something broke in the house, i never had anyone else to blame it on.

Re: Sibblings

I'm the youngest ... just my sister and I! She is 21 and for a long time it was really hard for us because of the age difference! But then we sort of grew up and now she's my closest friend ... we always stick together and spend a lot of time with each other ... it's great !

With my parents ... its a different deal -- the things they went through with her ... were different (she was a very stay at home, minimal involvement in anything type of teenager). They had it easy with her and well I'm a different box of cookies. With all the things I do and all the organizations in which I'm involved in school they don't have it as easy! So its like a new learning experience for them ... but they are troopers and have always supported me, so its all good !

I don't get any special treatment because I'm the yougest ... my family doesn't think that way ... I actually get it harder ... but its ok!!

Re: Sibblings

I have one older brother. He's on 1293 as well, and was at Palmetto.

He and I have the same kind of dry humor, except that he doesn't apply it nearly as much as I do (and often to his benefit).

The funny thing is that both of us work at Piggly Wiggly, so now we mooch everything off of each other. Shirts, name tags...it's funny.

I'm the older of 2.

Young James is going into his second year at Columbia University. Last I checked he's majoring in Political Science and Economics.

Don't worry folks.
He got all the brains of the family.

Re: Sibblings

I was an only child for 12 years. My parents got divorced when I was 5 or 6 and then my dad remarried and had kids.

I have a sister who will be 13 this year and a brother who just turned 11.

Both of them are already showing interest in joining the robotics team when they get older. I already let my brother walk with us during this year's memorial day parade, and he wore a shirt from nationals 2002 that I won on e-bay that was too small for me.. lol

Re: Sibblings

I'm the second oldest out of 6. (All girls and 1 boy, but its okay though he's the oldest). I like my position. My brother is the guinea pig. Other then that though I don't really notice any different treatment between me and some of my sisters and brother. There is some but that’s only because they age range between us. My brother was entering college when my youngest sister was entering kindergarten.

It’s great. My parents are really involved in FIRST and it works great with the school. I just graduated from high school and one of my sisters (Angie) was there this year. So we easily kept up with FIRST. She's going to be a senior this year though. When she graduates my next sister (Emily) will be starting her freshmen year. ^_^ Then there are two more coming. We'll have a person in high school for the next 10 years straight. So you'll be seeing my family in FIRST for a long time. ^_^
