[FVG]: Music Permissions

This thread is to discuss permission from bands to use their music. Regular music discussion should still take place in the Music thread.

I got permission to use Talking to Death by Bamboo Shoots, and found out something interesting about them. Two of their members, Avir and Tom, were involved in FIRST when they were in high school!! i don't yet know what teams they are on, but i asked them in my most recent email. I'll post as soon as i find out.

Re: [FVG]: Music Permissions

Try asking Hoobastank.

I don't know what kind of genre of music you are looking at including in the game, but if you want something from a rock music genre, just try asking them.

We asked them if we could use their music in our flash animation of our team's website, and they graciouisly let us use a part of a song.
(Thanks Hoobastank!!)
Of course we included a special thank you for the use of their tunes on our copyright page.

I don't know how the permission was gotten, but it may be a different battle(?) if you want to use their music in a game that you plan on selling?
I know that we don't use the website to sell anything, so maybe that's why it was cool with them to let use use a sample.

I'm assuming you are going to try and sell this game eventually?

Anyways, it never hurts to ask.

i actually just got my first Hoobastank cd yesterday...

they are very good, i'll have to listen to the cd and see which songs might go good in the game. though, i was thinking it would be nice to use this game to reveal undiscovered talent. however, i guess there is always the issue of how much talent we can actually discover .

well, i guess we can try the small bands a little more, but if it doesnt look like we can get a good full playlist out of this, maybe we will ask hoobastank.

Well, my email to SuperChick still hasn't been returned, and we still only have 1 approved song. I need more suggestions about who we should contact. If you can, try and find bands that have email/postal contact. (I plan on mailing AFI when i get the chance.)

Mike, did you try contacting the teacher in our school?

There always is the option of mixing our own music for it. Mike, you had said you wanted to get into DJing or whatnot? Well, maybe you could do a few songs, and I could probably get some software and mix my own...maybe make a few songs. Anyone who could probably do that, let us know.

Can you post the letter/e-mail/whatever that you sent to them? I would like to write a few bands, but I have no idea where to start.

Re: [FVG]: Music Permissions

I found out that Trapt has an email address, and i have written an email explaining the game and asking if we can use the edited version of Headstrong. The only problem is that the site that hosts their email address is currently down. i should have it to them soon though. i also plan to mail AFI asking them for Paper Airplanes and Totalimmortal.

does anybody have the edited version of trapt so i dont have to go buy their cd over again?

Re: [FVG]: Music Permissions

It's been a while since this was discussed on Chief Delphi, but it's time to get moving again with the music. if anybody could get some sample music from local bands, please email it to me at urthe1neo@aol.com. also, anybody who has band contacts (not administration contacts, but emails meant for fans to interact with band members) please post them here and we can discuss which songs to ask for.
