Go to Post P.S. - Don't eat spicy food before a match, or a marathon of matches like eliminations. It never ends well. Trust me. - Keith Chester [more]

2004 CHALLENGE - NO LIMITS

Kickoff and Team Organization Meeting for Interested Students, Parents and Teachers

Thursday, September 16, 7:00-8:30 PM

7:00-8:00 PM Introduction to FLL and the 2004 Challenge
8:00-8:30 PM Organization of teams

What is FIRST LEGO League?
FLL is an international program for children of ages 9-14 created in a partnership between FIRST and the LEGO Company.

On September 15, FLL will announce the annual Challenge to teams. The Challenge engages team members in hands-on robotics design and programming as well as authentic scientific research. FLL focuses on team building, problem solving, creativity, and analytical thinking.

After 8 intense weeks, the FLL season culminates at high-energy, sports-like tournaments. The second annual Los Angeles Regional State Qualifier Tournament will be held in the South Bay (hopefully at MBMS again) on Saturday, November 20 and the LEGOLAND California State Tournament will be held at LEGOLAND in Carlsbad on Saturday, December 4.

This year, over 34,500 children in North America and 5,500 children from 11 countries internationally are participating in the FLL program. As of 9/10/04, 2,761 teams have registered for FLL, including one team from MBMS. We hope to have at least two teams from MBMS this year.

Challenge 2004 - NO LIMITS
Many people have difficulty moving or walking, or trouble reading a distant sign or climbing stairs. In NO LIMITS, FLL teams will find ways to help people with different levels of physical ability.

For more information contact MBMS FLL coach LeRoy Nelson at 937-7226 or LeRoyNelson@earthlink.net. LeRoy is also a mentor for the MCHS and RUHS high school robotics team, Beach Cities Robotics.
