Re: end of the hawaiin shirts?!?

The whole thing does sound rather funny, but for some reason it's disturbing too. I don't know why people want to change other people so much, it's something I don't think I'll ever understand. There's that saying, "The clothes make the man." but I think there are a lot of mean, greedy, narrow-minded people running around in designer labels and if that's what makes, them, I'm rather glad I'm unmade. Eeep, didn't mean to get preachy... Oh well, answer if you want to, I've now got to go have lunch with a bunch of co-workers who are always harassing me about my style (or lack thereof). Heidi |

Re: end of the hawaiin shirts?!?
See, this is my thing with the surprise genre of reality television.
Stuff like Big Brother, Survivor, Trading Spaces, and The Bachelor is fine with me (well, as fine as some of those shows can get--never was a dating show fan). The people sign up, and they know (more or less) what they're getting into. But then we've got all of these new shows, such as Punk'd, Boiling Points, What Not to Wear (although I'm sure they've been shot down in the past), and the related genre where the contestants/stars/victims are picked without them knowing it. And you know, when you're surprised by something like that and not expecting it, you get really screwed up in the head. I was going to get overly preachy (a la Heidi), but I'm going to hold off. |

Re: end of the hawaiin shirts?!?
Somewhat on-topic.....I just got an email about this sale. Now Dave can stock up for next season!
How did I get this email? I've been on the list since I bought one for one of my Babson friends who everytime a bunch of us went out anywhere, he would wear the same shirt (his "party shirt")...thus the girls decided he needed a new party shirt for his birthday...and bought him a bright orange one. Edit: Ironically, this guy was also named Dave. Go figure ![]() Last edited by Jessica Boucher : 27-10-2004 at 11:57. |

I think Dave should go for the Hawaiian Ties for work. I tried finding an entire Hawaiian suit with no luck. Heidi |

OMG Dave, what don't you have in Hawaiian print?
(If I see a Hawaiian print rocket or space shuttle I'm throwing a photoshop flag on that) (I'm not saying that those previous items are fake, I believe those.) ![]() Last edited by Pat McCarthy : 27-10-2004 at 19:07. |

Re: end of the hawaiin shirts?!?
How about Hawaiian MacDaddy gear? That will be tough to get, or even to visualize, but it would be awesome. I think Dave is in a phase of change, from liking simple clothes with flowers and tropical colors on them to liking expensive, ornate, gaudy clothing with wierd colors, such as purple fur suits
. Just Kidding, Dave. |

Re: end of the hawaiin shirts?!?
We don't have a TV in our house, so when I was in the hospital for seven weeks, I was kind of overwhelmed with all the shows. I did watch What Not to Wear a few times--I thought the people were cruel (NO gracious professionalism), but I was fascinated to see how the two perpetrators molded their victims to their way of thinking.
Since I was in the hospital (and on some pretty powerful drugs) while watching this stuff, I got some weird thoughts. Like, "Wouldn't they just love my hospital wardrobe?" Hospitable gowns these days, while they still open in the back, have an offset and overlapping opening. This way, they tend to expose just one leg, rather than what's really embarrassing, so that should be fashionable, shouldn't it? My husband liked the effect, anyway. Too bad my legs, after atrophying in hospital beds, looked like I'd been spending time in a concentration camp. Plus, I wound up with needle marks--those nurses just wouldn't relent. But all that sort of thing has been fashionable at some time or other (in the 1960s, anyway), so it should go over well with What Not to Wear people, right? I mean, why have something bright and happy like Hawaiian shirts when you can have such tragic looking effects? Call it Hospital Chic. The other things the drugs did (or was it the unaccustomed amounts of TV?) was to get me thinking that, instead of sending their victims to New York to shop, they could send them to Beverly Hills. My brain waves may have been receiving vibes from all those boutiques, because I spent three weeks in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, which is adjacent to Beverly Hills and is said to have one of the most upscale hospital gift shops in existence. I did hate what happened to the victims' hair on the show: every one I saw, the hairdresser thinned the hair (which is supposed to be unhealthy for the hair), and colored it, and then styled it so the ends stuck out. I think ends sticking out looks like a bad hair day. When I got out of the hospital, I desperately needed a hair cut, so I went to my favorite salon. While Lisa snipped all those wayward inches, I asked her about the styles I saw on the show. She commented that that kind of style has been around seven years, and is on its way out. So maybe I was watching reruns and didn't know it -- or maybe, the people who do the show need a makeover themselves! Wouldn't it be great to have Dave, and Dean Kamen, and some of our teams, dress those fashion geeks in FIRST gear! Shall we start with Hawaiian shirts, or with five years of T-shirts? And blue jeans, without regard to whether the style shows off their legs. Who needs to show off legs, when we've got robotic ARMS to show off, anyway? |

Re: end of the hawaiin shirts?!?
The weird thing about all this is that I think I have seen Dave wearing a hawai'ian shirt on one or two occasions (besides pictures)...and I am on his team, and I have done projects at his house...and there is almost nothing in hawai'ian print at his house either. How is there such an obsession with this?
