Re: Super Regional
I'd say that winning a super regional would be more prestigious than winning a normal regional by sheer numbers.
If 1293 won Palmetto last year, then we could say we were the top of 42 teams. (well, the top three out of 42, but it's harder to explain alliances to non-FIRSTers.) In Canada, it was something like what, sixty, seventy teams? If you ask me, there's something inherently bigger in that. This isn't to knock on normal regionals--winning any regional is a task! |

Re: Super Regional
You also have to win an extra stage of eliminations (the eighth-finals) at a "Super Regional" to win the entire thing. The finalist alliance at the GTR wins as many elimination rounds as a regional winner anywhere else.
Team 48 will be in Toronto once again. We've been there every year since the regional's inception in 2002. It is always one of the most fun, exciting, and rewarding experiences of our FIRST season. The Canadians are wonderful hosts (and even better competition planners) and their teams are equally as impressive, and whether it's the new regional at Waterloo or the GTR, you can be sure you're going to have a wonderful time in Canada. |

Re: Super Regional
I don't think a super regional win is better than any other win. What about a small great lakes regional with loads of hard and very good teams? Quality over quantity people.

Re: Super Regional
just because there is quantity there, doesnt mean there is a lack of quality (1114,33,639,48 etc etc) either
. actually, i'm just trying to plug the CR for all its worth this year.. er.. GTAR... since 188's gonna be in SoCal at the time, i mean, someone has to come and fill our void heehee |

Re: Super Regional
The great thing about the GTR, other than how well it is run and the number of teams, is the mix of experience in the teams. With so many young teams paired with some great veterans (33, 48, 188, 639, 781) there is a good chance a young team will bring home the gold again - (610, 781 and 865 in '02, 1088 in '03, and 1112 in '04)

Re: Super Regional
Is the GTA Regional still considered a "SuperRegional" this year? Also, I think that winning a SuperRegional is more prestigious just because there are so many other teams there. Not only are there young teams, there are also seasoned veterans, which makes for awesome matches and alliances.

Our team has give aways but not buttons. I was suggesting comparing buttons. I have a few myself. At the end of last season my vest weighed just under 10 lbs. |

Re: Super Regional
The regional venue and crew have built up a reputation for being the best FIRST has to offer, and yes, it is a little bit more challenging to win a super-regional, but to me the value of any regional win is equal.
