Hey, I know you FIRST folks typically hate combat robots, but I guess I would too if our organization's leader constantly spoke out against them.

Ah, well. As well as building combat robots, I'm trying to start a FIRST team, so don't flame me.

It's not quite so cut and dry. Many of us respect combat robots. In my opinion, it's just different. I have much respect for Marc Thorpe and many of the innovators of that type of robot competition. We FIRSTers don't all hate that stuff. Heck, there are even a few FIRSTers on these Forums who also do robot combat competitions.

In my opinion, it's all good.

Interesting. The impression I had was that usually "real" botbuilders built autonomous and/or microcontroller-operated robots, though the lines are getting blurred, especially in the Northeast US, where some folks are beginning to build crude autonomous combat robots, using basic stamps and sensors. They haven't done so well overall, but they have actually won fights against human-driven bots.

Re: Looking for damaged robot pics!

I know if you search the gallery from UTC from 03 you will find a picture of RAGE's damaged bot being fixed.

Re: Looking for damaged robot pics!

I don't have a pic of it but at last years silicon valley regionals team 254's bot dropped from the top of the 9 foot pole and hit the ground, hard. There was no damage but it was funny and there should be a video some where, if i can find it I'll post it.

The freshmen were building prototypes and came up with this. If I recall it couldn't turn and as soon as they let it loose they realized they had no way to stop it...

Pretty funny anyways
