Go to Post The great thing about autonomous mode is that it doesn't require any additional effort from anyone else on your team... (You could do that yourself...but I've noticed that people will usually offer to do it for you, rather than let the programmer touch power tools.) - jgannon [more]

Adopt-A-Tool Was A Success

Our first non-sponsor related fundraiser of the year proved to be extremley profitable. The UCVTS campus hosted it's annual Back-to-School Night for parents last Thursday, Sept. 23rd. We as a team had a table there where we placed all of our tools and allowed parents to "adopt" them for $10. The names of the parents who adopted were placed on the tools themselves so that we could remember their donation throughout the year, especially during the Build season. Overall, we had about 50 tools adopted and made $500 of pure profit! Thanks to all the parents that provided donations, and we hope to have your continued support throughout the year!
Is there any other information about it? i am very interested on how it went and how it was organized. thanks for all the info!

Re: To all of team 1257, i am wondering about one of your fundraisers.

Basically, that news post says it all. There was really nothing to it. We brought our robot to the front entrance of our school. Set up two tables with tools and miscellaneous team 1257 stuff, and started collecting money .

Personally, I had thought it wasn't a terribly great idea, but I had not counted on one thing, one very sociable freshman working the crowd bringing people over to the table. This guy probably supplied more than half our sales by going up to parents, introducing himself and briefly explaining what the fundraiser was and then walking them over to the table. A lot of parents thought it was a cute idea and had a hard time deciding which tool to pick and what to write on it.

It may not work for any team because we have a very close-knit, supportive school. The fact that its a magnet school that focuses on math, science, and technology didn't hurt either. Regardless, it takes almost no effort to run, so any time you can get a large group of people with money together, try it out.
