I think the opposite might be better, only for the sake of public safety. Figure out how to make cars autonomous, say on highways, that way no matter how dumb someone is, there's no way they can endanger themselves or others while driving on a highway. It's a drastic solution, yes, but I fear that the idiocy of people has gone too far.


Getting back on topic, those things in cars are neat, but they (currently) cannot replace a human being as a driver. Sure, I'd love a system that would parallel park for me, but there's no way I'd ever 100% trust it to work every time, meaning I need to know how to parallel park as well. It's like using a calculator. It makes math easier, but what if the calculator breaks, you had better know the principles behind how it's doing the work, so you can do all the math mentally. You can never fully trust a machine to look after itself (yet), they've simply not reached that level of sophistication.
