Post What's unique about your Regional?

Let's use this thread to tell things you saw in the regionals you were that were unbelieveble or simply special, things that you don't see everyday in FIRST competitions, interesting things you want to share with us.

I'll start:

Pacific Northwest Regional (Seattle-WA)

1) In the first 30 seconds of a match ALL THE ROBOTS WERE DEAD. No, it wasn't a big coincidence that all robots failed: the competition's program failed, the system operators made a mistake or something, and the match started again after some minutes.

2) The floor in the pits was carpet. I had never seen that before.

3) There was a team from Brazil playing there.
just kidding

4) Woddie was the guy saying "1,2,3,go!", Dean went there and the founder of Amazon.com went there too.

The LI Regional had carpeted pits!! Hehe.

Lets see...we had both of Dean's brothers (Bart and Mitch) as judges. We had Woodie and a Woodie look a like as our MCs. That's all I can think of for now.

ice
nice cold ice

beneath the roll our floor in St. Louis was a fully iced hockey rink, our team actually talked to the building manager and they had had a rodeo in their the previous weekend, a hockey game that Tuesday, and then FIRST starting on Thursday. needless to say they were going to have to redo the entire floor due to metal shaving going through the grate on the ground, but hey if a piece of metal was hot just lay it on the floor and in 20 sec it would be cold, it was a wonderful "feature"

another not so bad thing was the team party at the science center, a bunch of nerds with science toys is never a good idea (and just in case anyone was wondering it was also GIRL SCOUT NIGHT, after the guys had repeated little girls stomp on their feet or run away screaming we finally asked)

THANK GOODNESS all those rookies won't be rookies next year, I think it would kill us all, granted they were great but it really changed the competition.

its late, ill think of more random things tomorrow

GLR was cool, but the CR was a very cool place to be.

We played in a hockey rink w/ all the bords, but no ice. They took off the whole floring, all the way to the cement. That sucked, but it was so cool!! I always wanted to be in a hockey rink...

Heh heh - yea, that was pretty sweet and the play-by-play announcer was awesome! We missed Woodie this year though! Oh, and the pits at MMR are carpeted too!

Harrison has a little shameless behaviour in the past
The announcer at the GLR did an intoduction on his head one round...Pointed to the teams with his feet...Was pretty cool.

At the Canadian regional it was good too. I liked at the CR that the team party was in the same building as the competition...Saves going somewhere else (like at the GLR).

Also at the CR, there was a dance going on in one hockey rink, then at the other (where the competition is) they had a movie on for the old people that didn't want to dance at the dance).

Houston Regional's team party was also in the same building, right beside the astrodome. The team party was huge, and everyone got hand-out flashing cat ears that went on your head. They were blue and pink. When the lights went out, they were all flashing, and everyone was dancing... it looked pretty cool.

Yeah, at the St. Louis Regional, you could sit on the floor to cool off. And the stuff they put over the ice could expand and slide a little on the ice, so it felt really wierd to walk because the thing on top of the ice slid a little as you walked, especially if you were walking beside a big person. Oh yeah, and Dean Kamen gave a speech, and he also brought a movie with Will Smith supporting first. Will was saying we needed to invent more technology and stuff so he can record his albums at home, and see his KIDS and his WIFE... It was funny!
