Whats the scariest movie?

Whats the scariest movie? People have alot of opinions on what the most scariest movie is. I personally think Friday the 13th movie is by far scary (the 1st one). I used to think IT was scary because of the clowns, but now i find it funny lol

Re: Whats the scariest movie?

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre (released in 1974 I believe) was one of the scariest movies I saw as a child. I saw it at a drive in theater when I was 8 years old and I think I woke up screaming from nightmares for a week straight... my parents were quite clueless about what's appropriate for a young child to see, so many Friday nights in the summers were spent at a Drive-in's dusk to dawn horror shows...

The first Evil Dead also scared me. I was 14 when I saw it while helping a friend babysit. There was one scene in the movie that made us jump back, which we did so hard that we actually tipped the couch over...

Of course, neither of these two movies scare me now...

Re: Whats the scariest movie?

One of the only movies that has ever given me nightmares is The Exorcist. I watched it with my mom when I was 13 or 14 ... I think I slept on my parent's bedroom floor for a week after that ...

Re: Whats the scariest movie?

i dont watch very many movies, but i dunno. watching horror alone on HBO is fretty scary but if you watch them with a bunch of friends commenting about everything, they turn out to be quite hilarious.
the exorcist for example. lfao. watch it again thinking its a funny movie. haha. there was a friend who said it was scary because of the religious w/e. im not religious so i wouldnt know. heh
and the jason one where they go to space. oh man was that funny. that was meant to be laughed at.
but the ring. that was a pretty tense movie. well, i dont remember the american one. just the japanese version (a completely different movie. not sure which came first)
im sorry, kinda ruining this thread topic.. oh well. everyone ignore me.

Re: Whats the scariest movie?

Odd that this thread should start after Halloween.

I like horror movies a lot -- a complete reversal from my childhood where I was too terrified to even watch commercials for horror movies. These days, I'm very interested in deconstructing mechanisms of fear so that I can better conquer them. There are a lot of things to be afraid of in the world, and almost none of them involve a homicidal killer/walking cliche, though the mechanisms each use to intimidate and demoralize us are quite the same.

That said, I don't find terribly many movies frightening anymore, though there are still a handful that unnerve me -- mostly because they tap into someof my unconquered childhood fears.

The only horror movie I've been unable to finish watching was The Amityville Horror because of one particular scene about midway through the movie. Also, Amityville is about 20 minutes from where I grew up.

I voted other. I don't remember the name of the movie. I saw it on TV when I was probably 8 years old. I think it was space aliens who made the earth open up and swallow people. It gave me nightmares for years. (Well, at least for most of a year. )

Re: Whats the scariest movie?

I was talking to a co-worker at lunch, he told me how he and some friends went to see the new movie Saw. The girl he was with asked him if they could leave because it was making her sick. He agreed with her and they left the movie and went to see a romantic comedy.
During the movie he had to go to the bathroom. After he got into the lobby he saw someone being taken out of the theater via ambulance. He inquired what happened to a theater employee- apparently the person was overwhelmed from watching the movie Saw.
With that said, I'm definitely going to see it. Friday night actually, I'll let everyone know how it was

Re: Whats the scariest movie?

I can't believe so many people voted for The Ring. When I watched that (rented it), I sat there completely bored by anything that happened. In addition, the movie left so many questions unanswered and felt like a bunch 'scary' moments linked together that attemped to create some haunting story. As for those unanswered questions, who the heck was the voice on the phone? Stuff like that didn't make sense. The original Japanese film, Ringu, was a bit better.

Go Silence of the Lambs! Psychological thrillers always get to me.

Re: Whats the scariest movie?

Curse of the Demon.
This movie is like the Ring, and Signs. It seeks to creep you out instead of gross you out or make you jump with red herrings. The plot basically goes like this: Professor Harrington (Maurice Denham) is mysteriously murdered, seemingly as the result of a demonic manefestation. His collegue, psychologist John Holden (Dana Andrews) denies the evidence, until in the company of the professor's neice (Peggy Cummins) he finds himself the next victim( a nasty little trick where someone gives you a parchment and within a few days a demon will rise up from hell and kill you unless someone else willingly takes the parchment and are killed by the demon instead). Dr. Holden slowly but surely comes to realize the great danger he's in and has little time to save himself or face a terrible death.
The movie plays with your head with sounds and atmosphere. It only blows it at the end when we actually see the demon and it's basically some guy in a rubber mask (this was made in the 50's long before the wonders of CGI) and it almost ruins the film but it's still good scary fun.

Re: Whats the scariest movie?

When I was little, ET scared me to death b/c of one scene. Then I grew up and that wasn't a problem.

Poltergeist freaked me out but that was because someone thought it was funny to jump up behind the couch whenever the movie was geting intense.

Other than those, most "horror" movies do not scare me. I haven't seen one in a long time that has scared me/freaked me out.

The ring scared me like hell. It game me frightening thoughs that Iw as actully gunna die in 7 days because the movie makes you part of the curse by watching the film. I am easily scared of horror movies but hell, now I watch them for the deaths and all, lol.
