I decided to do mine on FIRST, but my mom thought that the footage from SOAP might be copyrighted. Anybody know if I can use it or if it is copyrighted? I think it should be free domain so that we can use it for advertisement for FIRST (which is kinda what I'm doing). Please respond, so if needed, I can get SOAP's permission to use the video clips.
Hiya,
My name is David Auguste, and I'm co-manager of SOAP108 this year. I'm really sorry about the late response to this (this was brought to my attention a little late, sorry) I totally understand what your going through. Feel free to make use of the SOAP video's to obtain your scholarship. However all we ask is that when you do use the videos give due credit to SOAP108.com and its creators. Good luck and thanks a lot for asking!

PS. In any case it wasn't clearly stated, the videos are free to use any time, just give credit where its due. If you have any questions, feel free to email me personally at david.auguste@gmail.com.

Re: SOAP 108 Video Copyrighted?

Thanks for letting me know in time. I'm now trying to decide whether i really want to enter the video i made in the scholarship or to give it to FIRST / ChiefDelphi as publicity for FIRST. The scholarship has a legal sign off form which, in my opinion, seems like they want complete ownership of the video. I am going to call them (hopefully, if they give me a phone #) and see whether we can continue to use it as publicity for FIRST. Any opinions on whether I should enter the video in the scholarship or keep it for FIRST / ChiefDelphi to use as publicity?

Scholarship only gets me $1000 for 1st, $200 for 2nd, $100 for 3rd, and honorable mentions. They post the video on their website.

...Why didn't I just give u the website...

Thanks

May I highly recommend putting your video's under a Creative Commons License? This would do exactly what you want, allowing other people to use your video's whenever they need them as long as they give you due credit. You can even add additional clauses, like preventing people from using your video for profit. It's an excellent way to give to the community, and an excellent resource when you need something for a creative project.
