Re: How many teams in 2005?

You guys can expect a rookie team from Tennessee to be joining that list very shortly. We're getting the program OKed through the main office today. That'll make two teams from TN competeing this year, 4 total, Webb and South-Doyle from Knoxville haven't registered yet this year.

Re: How many teams in 2005?

Does anyone have ideas or plans to start teams in Nebraska? It is the only state to never have had a FIRST team, and one of two states this year (the other being NM) without a team. Also I've heard a few of the OCCRA (a local robot competition in MI) teams mentioning interest in joining first. This year is still busy.

Hmm last time I checked we were up to 1638. Someone asked earlier if we'd reach 1700...it won't be easy. But there's always those last-minute registrations, so we can keep our fingers crossed.

Also, great news: this year we've got 8 teams from Brazil!!! I wonder if any more are interested...?!?!?!

I wonder if that means there will be a Bazillian regional one day?

This year, I think NJ is the Brazillian regional with 5 teams from Brazil.

Lonestar -1
Flordia - 1
Midwest 1
NJ - 5

I'm still waiting for 383 to come back to VCU.

Re: How many teams in 2005?

Neither Michigan, New York, or California has broken the 100-team mark, they each have 7, 11, and 17 teams to go, respectively.
If Brazil's team growth keeps going at this current rate, then I expect that there will be a Brazillian regional in the near future (2006? sooner?)

350 was inactive in both 2002 and 2003. We came back in 2004 as 350. I think that as long as you make sure FIRST doesnt delete you from their database, you can keep the number. A good idea is if you go inactive, let FIRST know you intend on returning.

As for the thread topic:
I think that we will have no more than 1050. Even though we are gaining a lot of rookies, a ldecent number of veteran teams are dropping like flies due to the increased registration fee.

Highest team number, no higher than 1700

Re: How many teams in 2005?

Im betting on somewhere between 1000 and 1100.

And how much has the registration fee changed?

Re: How many teams in 2005?

First regional registration fee has been raised from $5000 to $6000 for a 20% increase. At the moment I think 1000 is still somewhat optimistic. And keep in mind that these lists are registered teams, not necessarily teams that have paid in full...

The NASA grants haven't been given out yet, so there will be quite a few more rookie and second year teams.

As long as you have the email address (team ID) and password of the mentor/leader in charge of registration in TIMS, you can technically register the same number. Many of the veteran teams who had to re-register as rookies lost the person in charge of registration, or dramatically changed team structure (changed affiliation with school, sponsor, etc.), and registered a new number as a new team. I don't believe FIRST cleans out the database of old teams, so conceivably any team registered in TIMS can be re-registered, provided the correct contact information/email/password is provided. This means any veteran teams on a hiatus may and hopefully will return next year, and spend this season fund raising and practicing.

Just remember the competitions are open to the public, so even if your team is taking a year off, it doesn't mean you or your team can't come to the events anyway! Show up and become surrogate members of another team, or just check out the 'bots and cheer everyone on. There's still plenty of good times to be had, even if you don't have a robot!
