XP Services

I'm wondering how I can unregister services from XP. For instance, I had Darwin Streaming Server installed at one point, but then I got rid of it. Unfortunately, it didn't have an installer, so the service is still in the "Services" list.

Anyone have a freeware program to get rid of this sort of thing? I'm not going to try to directly edit the registry (unless you have very specific directions...)

Not sure if you would want this in here or somewhere else. Sorry if you don't like it.

Re: XP Services

I use a program called Scotty Win Patrol

http://www.winpatrol.com/winpatrol.html

It's a great program for freeing up unwanted stuff like that, without using msconfig or anything like that.

Try it out! It's free!

Good luck

Re: XP Services

Thanks guys.

What I'm really looking for is something to completely remove them from the list, not just disable them. I'm not sure if such a thing even exists, but it's worth a try.

Re: XP Services

If you know the name of the .dll, then try opening a command line and use the command "regsvr32 your.dll /u" . I think that unregisters a .dll from the services.

Actually, scotty will allow you to do that. Just use delete instead of the disable button. I've done it millions of times.

If you still can't figure it out, use the "run" command and run "msconfig" without the "". Then, go over to the startup tab, and find the things you dont want and delete them. That works too.
