816 kbps ... SBC Yahoo DSL.

[Edit] I'm on a wireless connection ... the 'home portal' sits in the den, right under my room (about 14-15 feet away.) I'm also connected at 11.0 mbps [/edit]

Wasn't there a thread something like this awhile ago?

5440 Kbps - You

It's kind of wowing me right now too, its only a Cox cable connection. Along with a router and a 130+ ft cable going from my main house, this connection is decent, and CNET might be deceiving me, but the results seem consistent.

Re: What speed do you surf the net? Take the test!

685.4 Kbps - You

That is through a hub, another 10BaseT hub, and my router.

On my home network--at least two cat five jacks in every room of the house--we've got six computers, one of which is my webserver.

It isn't the most efficient setup in the world, what with all the cables running through the walls and all the hubs, but not bad at all.

I think www.dslreports.com/stest gives me a lower speed though....
Yup

336/407 down/up, according to dslreports.com/stest

May I suggest a cross-reference with that site?

Incidentally--for anyone who has the opportunity, don't use TDS.net as an ISP. We used to use Tellink, the local NHPS provider, and even when we were paying for 512/128 they were giving us 1500/500. They just didn't choke the bandwidth. TDS does, and does it to a point where it is much slower than the 768 we're now paying for. We stuck with them because I had a static IP with tellink, but it may not be worth it anymore. We're looking at going over to cable now--they wouldn't give us a static IP, but my server doesn't get a lot of traffic, and I can just use dynamic DNS from www.freedns.afraid.org

Re: What speed do you surf the net? Take the test!

Infinity Kbps - You

This is what happens if you hit the back button, let it show you the new speed, and do it again.

Make sure you don't hit the back button to do a second test!

btw, I had a 1000 or so kb connection at school with a T1.

This is my high school connection. Which is pretty sad seeing as it is supposed to be a T1 connection.

On Earthlink Dial-up

The cable company said it would cost $7000 to run the cable line to our house - all of a sudden my connection seemed fast enough. I'm thinking about getting satellite internet - anybody know any good ones?
