I have stayed out of this discussion for a reason. We keep secrets and keep them well, but I have to speak out about the "screw the match, lets kill MOE/Sparky". We had the guts, time, money, and insanity to build a three goal robot. We added lots of little feature to it and use them whenever we can. Other goal grabbers and ball collectors shoudn't "break" any 3 goal bot, but pushing is allowed. Many times we have been pushed out of the way and we have fotage of it. This game is a pushers game, not a goal grabber. Team 400, who had little people on their team and only one or two mentors (hi leo!) made it to the finals because they had a bot that shoved, no balls, no goals. They spent all their weight on power.

---------- You're correct in saying that MOE and SPARKY took a risk in going after all three goals right off the buzzer. As a member of the pit crew, we saw quickly at VCU that MOE was coming off the field pretty beaten-up. Now I don't have a problem with that... As long as the damage comes in the spirit of the game. If we grab onto all of the goals, and a team -while trying to take one away- happens to mangle an arm, that's OK with me, and the rest of the team. I just hope that in all of our matches that a team doesn't decide to mangle the robot for the heck-of-it. That is not in the spirit of FIRST, even though this years game is inherantly more violent than previous years. see you at nationals!!! ---------- -DUCKY- ps- thank god for our abile pit crew and swanky pit. |

beatty
So, with the start (and now finish) of the midwest regional, beatty's (team 71) robot has been revealed. I could not pick up a stream of this regional, and I was curious as to whether they are actually a 3 goal grabber- the scores indicate that they may actually only get 2 goals.
Thanks, Joe |

joe and to everyone else, BEatty is great again. they do grab 3 goals and they move with alot of torque with their file card drive.
Simon, they are not going to rip us apart. Beat us? maybe but if we grabbed all three and they also did, they won't be able to apple torque to one wing. |

Beatty Strategy: HAIL MARY!
With your back to the field, crouching in the alliance station ready to grab a ball. When the horn goes off, arc a ball backwards over your head hoping that it will lodge under Beatty as it falls. |

In one match I did see a ball sail across. I think they were trying to knock Beatty over backwards. It was an accurate shot, but the time it took to turn around and aim was the time it took for beatty to fall.
I wonder how the refs would view a Hail Mary. |
