Re: What kind of car do you drive??

My "ride" is a 1989 Toyota Camry LE V6.

Pretty cool 'cept for the fact that it:
  1. Hasn't moved in over three years
  2. Has about every liquid possible leaking out of it
  3. And is rusted through and through on all four quarter panels.
Other than that it's a great car, it even has that nice new car scent.

BTW did I forget to mention that it only has a mere 250,000 miles on it.

I can't drive without a parent until February so, until then, I drive my dad's 2003 Grand Prix GT or my mom's 2003 Chrysler Town and Country. HAHA I personally like the GP for obvious reasons!

Depends on which year you get. As far as I know, there was never a 5.8 Crown Vic. Most Vic's running around these days have a 4.6 or 4.8. The only real difference between the police versions and stock versions as far as the engine goes is that the police versions have no governor and remapped engine curves. They will just keep going in 5th till they blow up.

Other differences lay mostly in suspension, the electrical system and a relocated spare (under the trunk instead of in it). Oh, and the nifty spot light that you can play with- Just don't let a cop see it on!

I belive the Caprice Classic Interceptors have a Corvette engine in them, which is 5.8L if I'm not mistaken. Though most Chevys that are converted to interceptors blow their engines, even the 'Vette ones. The cops that I've talked to like the Fords much more. There are also anti-sway bars and a 2" lift (stiffer springs) on the interceptor along with lots of steel re-enforcements in the sides and such. Mines putting out about 240-250 hp with slightly more torque, but they weigh a ton, well, over 2 actually: about 4400 lbs. About 2X Andy's Miata (very fun car).

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

People, people, people...

The police package for the Caprice Classic had the LS1 in it (Old-RWD Caprice), 5.7 (350) Corvette engine in it. Now they use the 3.8 V-6 (NON-Supercharged) and FWD (Looked down on very much) Impala. Usually they use these vehicles for inner city patrols and not for chases. (Very heavy car. 0-60 in about 9 seconds)

The police package for the Crown Vic has the 4.6 - just slightly modified, The older ones used 5.0 High output - and even older ones used a 5.8 2bbl carb (Old-school). Pretty plain and simple. Cop's like the RWD and the Crown Vic has been around since the dawn of the Earth - and Ford prices them just right so they stick with them. They even have good power (even for the heavy Crown Vic body)

Now Chrysler (even though that I am a HUGE Mopar fan) has been a joke on their part for cop-car packages and that is why you don't see many cars for them. But hopefully that'll change with the magnum...

Hope this helps out a little bit!!

Also - about the blowing engines part - I have never seen/heard of that. Cops blow the suspension apart due to how hard they are on it but the 350's/LS1's are a VERY STRONG MOTOR. (And they all have to have goveners on the RPM side. If you don't you can revv the engine in neutral until it blows (under 20 seconds) - but don't get this confused with a Speed govner. You can go as fast as the engine can get you until the friction of the wind stops you! )
