There is a lot of pressure on the drive team members, all of them, but mainly the driver. There is pressure from refs, drive team coach, team coach/mentors , pit crew members, and other people in general. Sometimes their comments are pressurizing enough. That's why it is very important for drive team members to maintain their calm no matter what the situation is. Driving skills and field experience comes after a while when the driver has played on the field for some time. Of course, with experience you also learn to maintain your calm in tense situations and your driving skills improve.
