Re: Ten years
this will be year ten for me also. i started as a student in '96.
progression: year 1 - team 1 - three dimensional services, now juggernauts, driver year 2 - team 94 - lear corporation, now technojays i think, driver year 3 - team 68 - truck town terror, now truck town thunder, driver year 4 - team 221 - MI Roboworks, temporarily retired, driver, designer (this was the team i started from scratch and built with friends in my basement!, i picked beatty and team rush in the finals....we lost to wildstang and placed fourth at nationals.) year 5 - team 221 - MI Roboworks, i moved the team to Michigan Tech after i graduated high school, mentor, engineer year 6 - team 221 - MI Roboworks, mentor, engineer year 7 - team 857 - Superior Roboworks, changed the name and number when Tech officially sponsored the team, mentor, engineer Year 8 - team 857 - mentor, engineer year 9 - team 857 - mentor, engineer year 10 - team 27 - came full circle and returned home to join team rush, though i was never on their team Kyle Hughes was one of my original mentors. i'm now back at the OSMTech Academy to mentor and design robots. probably not for long. look for team 221 to be resurrected in year 11. reminds me, i have to change my signature! |

Re: Ten years
Team 5 has been around since (the octagon ring) 98 - so that only makes them 7 years old - 8 including this year.
Many people make the mistake we where around since FIRST started - but 1998 was the last year they changed the numbers every year - so we got lucky! ![]() I've been involved with FIRST for 6 years now (including this year). Does seem like the years really slip by when you are having fun (I can rember the Original ramp/hang from the bar year and the 4v0 years ) |

Re: Ten years
My former team (now #74) has been around since the 1995 season (11 years) and have competed every year. Same school and sponsor since the beginning (Holland High School & Haworth). They've since added another sponsor though (Magna-Donnelly).
My current team (as Kelly said) is celebrating 10 years this year. It's quite interesting actually when I think back to 96, when such well-known names as Beatty and Wildstang were just rookies! In a lot of ways things were different back then but in a lot of ways they haven't changed much. I remember in 1995 that it would have been quite possible to meet every single team member at the Championship if you tried. I can't imagine trying anything like that today! |

Re: Ten years
I just want to revive this thread. We are working on a press release regarding our program and want to have good information regarding just how unique a 10+ year run is in FIRST. Thanks for your help.
