Re: Typical Due Date of Chairman's Award?

http://www2.usfirst.org/2004comp/8-T...corporated.pdf is still up - for a few days anyway. It lists Friday, February 20, 2004 as last year's submission deadline. It also explains the rules for the CA "competition".

Re: Typical Due Date of Chairman's Award?

wow, that means even less time. it was a real convience last year being able to put some final touches on the chairman's submissions while not having to worry about the robot, but it looks like we wont have that luxury this year.

Re: Typical Due Date of Chairman's Award?

I've got a question as well. I never figured out the connection between Chairman's Award and rookie teams. A couple people I met over the weekend were wondernig as well. Is there one?

How do you mean? As in, why do some rookie teams do Chairman's Award submissions, even though they can't win the award? If you have a NASA grant, it's a requirement to do so. Also, it is suggested in the manual, though not required (we didn't do it), to win Rookie All-Star. If that wasn't your question, feel free to clarify.

Re: Typical Due Date of Chairman's Award?

Thank you Joey for the clarification. I jsut didn't know if teams actaully were allowed to or had to or could win it. That makes a lot of things more clear.

Re: Chairman's Award and Rookie Teams

As a rookie team, we will go through the steps of answering the questions posed by the Chairman's Award just for the BENEFIT that the thought process will bring to our team to have ONE COMMON GOAL and strategy for this year's event(s).

So, I'd suggest that ALL rookie teams at least go through the thought process. I created a simple Excel spreadsheet template that you can even e-mail around to team members and everybody can enter their own thoughts and one person can pick & choose the "best of the best".

Then, put the form up on your team wall as part of your "mission"....

FIRST encourages rookie teams to submit a Chairman's entry. As it has been mentioned, you MUST if you are a NASA grantee.
This is about a process. The Chairman's is a great way to document what your team is about. Together with the yearbook page information on the TIMS , it will help the judges get a picture of your team and will help you next year, because this information can be used for grant and sponsor proposals. You will have it all in one place.
The interview process with the Chairmans is an excellent learning experience.
