Re: 2005 Kickoff broadcast

I have Direct TV, and when I look at the NASA channel listing for that day (channel 376) at 10:00 it just says "this week at NASA video file" and no info about FIRST. Does that mean I actually have to have my kid go outside and hold the dish on those coordinates to pick up a "different" NASA channel than the Direct TV one, or does NASA not report the showing info correctly?

The TV listing on NASA Channel is never accurate. For The past 3 years, As long as it is on NASA Webcast (Live on 2004-1-8, and then Archived Denman), then it is also relayed on NASA TV. If you have Direct TV, and you have the oval dish, and you get NASA TV, it should be on there. If you have Dish Network, you don't need a special Dish, and NASA TV is channel 213 (last I checked - about a month ago).

If it is on NASA Webcast, but not NASA TV, I would be truely shocked, and maddened by this since I record the webcast for my team every year.

Enjoy the show!

Edit: By the way, there is a delay in the NASA Webcast, I believe behind the NASA TV Channel feed. I believe it is a couple minutes, or about 5 minutes maximum. I know there is a delay, just don't remember how long of a delay, and which feed is behind which. (NASA TV, or NASA Webcast)

Re: 2005 Kickoff broadcast

Delay in webcast.

SInce we use real media or windows media in webcasting there is a minimum built in buffering delay of 15 to 30 seconds. Depending on numerous factors (connection length of braodcast, number of viewers) The buffering delay can be longer. In theory it shouldn't be more than a minut or two, but a couple of years ago I heard one unconfirmed report of a 1/2 hour.

Don't panic - If you miss the live webcast, the archive will be up by Monday if not before. We are doing things a bit differently this year and using the NASA Portal for the primary webcast. The internal older NASA SAVIG network will be used as a backup. All webcst sources will be listed on
