Go to Post The point of outreach isn't to "win" a "game" so I'm not sure what you hope to achieve with such a concept. The idea of "beating" another team in terms of outreach is fundamentally flawed. - dcarr [more]

Exclamation G max!!!!!!

Hey just to let you all know G Max is out and its free (21.4 mgs)
"G max is a free 3D content creation platform designed to let game enthusiasts create custom art for their favorite titles. It includes many powerful tools including polygon and patch editing, texturing, lighting, and simple keyframe animation." (discreet.com).

Check it out im downloading it right now. It looks cool to me.

Cool

I have heard that GMax is pretty neat and works great but I am not much of a gamer so I won't get it. Tell us how it is though in case I change my mind.

I saw the interface and a couple of students talked about it. Its may be a good program for students to get some 3D familiarity in the off season. Unless their as special as Sunny and can win a copy of the real thing!! Oh, how my guys had their fingers crossed. (not for the teapot award, but for the raffle of software.) maybe next year!!

Well the raffle seems to be almost entirely ours now. Last year a kid from our team named Steve won it, this year an engineer from our team won it, plus the teapot award for me, maybe next year we will be the only people mentioned at animation time. Just kidding, I am really hoping our winning trend stays but I know that it cannot possibly happen again, we are already beating the odds. I am going to try out GMax just to see if it is worth pursuing. I really want to play more with Inventor though, it looks like an awesome program.

Good point. A couple of the engineers and I want to get a group together on our team and teach inventor to them. Its pretty powerful. Like I said, since you have the real deal, unless your getting into gamming you may not need it. But if you find other uses let us know. Maybe that technology will help put 3D more on the web!!!

PS Hope your wrong about winning everything next year. No offence- but we dont show up for our good looks!!! (though that could be debated- haha)

Oh I know I am wrong about winning everything next year. Hey, if I get another copy of Max, I'll send it to you guys.

Thanks for the offer, but I'd never take the pleasure away from you. One thing to learn about true success, its never achieved by lowering the bar or knocking others down a notch, its done by striving further and further each time you attemp something. I just wanted you to know we werent sitting on the sidelines. I hope you took it the right way, I ment nothing negative or inflamatory. If we're not winning awards, I want it to be because the competition is so great. And it is. But we digress, see more in your team animation post.

hey

hey i completely forgot about this thread lol, yeha i tried out g max, and its a great program if you dont have or cannot afford 3ds. Other than that it is basically the same. So if you have 3ds. i really wouldnt bother using this program. Unless there is something that really catches your eye.

Oh that's not what I meant at all. I was just kidding. I am graduating this year anyway so it doesn't matter. The only way I will return is as a FIRST volunteer so I can't win anything next year anyway. Sorry for taking your post the wrong way.
