They also had a portable radometer that said "School zone...you are going:" It read 36 on it when I was a few blocks away, and I slowed down before it, but just as I passed by it, I slammed the accelerator, but it didn't tell me my speed. I should have gone 60 before it and run over some people ...or not.
i live in VA, and the max speed limit (the highest the signs will say) is 65mph, i belive.

and on those porta schoolzone signs, I have hit 25 going past one on a bike, according to it, so they probably get your speed and add 5 to 10 mph to it. (Actually, it could have been correct, I was going downhill very fast )

Sweet!

The scientists of today think deeply instead of clearly. One must be sane to think clearly, but one can think deeply and be quite insane.

True. Doing so is quite expensive. Besides that there is a penalty (I think 60Euro=$70) you have the liability to everything what happens even if it wasn't totally your fault.

Why sue MacDonalds because you ate a hamburger while causing an accident?

Something must be done.

Driving a 5000 lb potential deadly weapon has become easier than riding a skateboard.

EDIT: Just to sum up my opinion, don't make the car smarter, make the people more skillful. Fix the problem at the source. If people can't drive, a car that does it for them is not the solution. Even with a smart car, they still cannot drive.
I think an IQ-Test or a few driving questions in every car would prevent a lot.
So instead of using your keys make a test! ;-)

Re: Cars parking themselves?

here in england it seems to be much better than anything you said so far lol....
We have a (40?) question multiple choice test which you take as a seperate bit (think its 35 pass). Then you have the reaction test ... You get shown 10 scenes of you driving and have to press a button when you see a "danger" etc. And you get scored in points for how fast, from 5-1, and from that you need like 30 odd points. after that you have th driving test, which there are 2 types of errors, Major and Minor. Its instant fail for a Major, and you are allowed 10 minors or something .
(i know someone who failed for going right when the instructor said left and they got left/right the otherway round !)
After that there is the ++, which is a load of things where you go around in bad conditions like at night and on the motorways. If you pass that then your insurance drops dramatically!
Anyone seen The minority Report?
I'm thinking cars along those lines would be good. i guess you just jump in and tell teh computer where to go.
