Re: Virtual Kit of Parts - Update

Just a heads-up that the posted VKoP is not complete yet, but a little birdie informs me that the parts from IFI (drivetrain system and kit frame) will be posted very soon.

Also, the flasher that is in the posted VKoP is the wrong one for this year's competition - it is the old rotating beacon from 2003 and earlier.

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?

This is the first year I'm doing the virtualbot stuff, so I have a feeling that I'm going to get an obvious answer to this question, but nonetheless:

Up on streamline? What/Where/Huh? Where do I find this?

If they want us to think outside of the box, why do they make us fit in a 38x28x60 inch box?

Unfortunately for you, yes they are in Inventor 8. You might be able to use the STEP files IFI has posted on their site (kit frame, wheel & trans). Much of the VKoP is similar to last year's, though the fuse panel is new.

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?

I did not see the Fuse Panel when scanning through the VKOP. Did I just miss it or is it there?

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?

I got permission to install the trial of Inventor 8 on my home computer, but it crashes when trying to work with assemblies and some other comands. My computer is powerful enough though. The trial of Inventor 4 (Yes I know it's old ) worked fine. Did this problem happen with anyone else? Or is there a work around to open the files anyway?

What are the specs of your machine? Inventor requires a lot of RAM, my machine is a 1.5 GHz Pentium 4 with 640 MB of RAM and 60 GB of free disk space, and it still bogs down after several hours of heavy assembly work . I can't imagine working with less than 512 MB of RAM.

I too noticed that the fuse panel wasn't in the Virtual Kit of Parts on Streamline. Maybe somebody will post one

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?

I have a 1.9 GHz AMD with 768 MB of RAM runninng Win XP. I could have large assembly open with shiny materails rotating with very little of slowing down in Inventor 4.

It doesn't seem to be crashing becase I did too much, but that there is a problem with the program. Inventor just quits on me. Only when it crashed with a part tool did it give me a message about sending a report to Autodesk. Becuase we have dial up, I couldn't sent it then with someone on the phone (not me )

I would appreciate help so I can open the VKoP. We want to know exactly how heavy our bot is going to be.

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?

Yeah, your computer should definitely be good enough. You might want to check your graphics card settings on the "Hardware" tab of the "Application Options" (under "Tools") making sure it's compatible and such.

If all else fails, you could try reinstalling, but I'm not sure what this entails as far as keeping your license. I've used Inventor for four years, and I've found it to be fairly reliable and crash-resistant in my experience. Hopefully someone else has more insight on problems like this

Lightbulb Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?

The graphics card is OK. There isn't a usuall license becuase it is just a trial. So what if I lose a day, the design team hasn't found a final arm design yet, so I'm ok. Oh! Are there updates for inventor 8? I'll check that and tell you if it helps.

OK...Now it works. I just installed the updates (a lot of them) and it seems OK

They made the VKoP look good, but they didn't change the materials from default. I hoped the battery would really weigh 12 lbs. I'll have to edit them... Oh well...
